Ok, I know the title of this post may upset people, but here goes. I have been here awhile, been a marine wife for 4+ years, and have noticed quite a few marine wives dressed inappropriately for facilities on base. Ladies, please do not wear your pajama pants, spaghetti tank top and flip flops to the commissary, or the c-store, or the exchange. It is straight up inappropriate attire for on base. Anytime you are out and about on this installation, you are a direct reflection/representation to/of your husband. You never know if your husband's boss or peers know who you are and see you out, it's embarassing to your husband and the Corps. So, please, take 15 minutes, put some decent clothes on, even maybe a little bit of makeup and run a brush thru your hair before you hit any location on base. On a second note, it is completely understandable if you have seriously just worked out, but even workout wear still needs to be somewhat appropriate if you plan to wear it outside of the gym #that is all.

I agree with you completely, but keep in mind it isn't just the wives. I've noticed a few Marines doing this also.

champatlife --- 13 years ago -

All I own is Pjs, my husband wont buy me new clothes he says, it's a waste when all a Marine's wife is supposed to do is lay on the couch all day and make him babies.

:/ Sorry my wardrobe offends you. I at least wear toe socks with my flops and a bra.

SoonToBeJD --- 13 years ago -

I agree with everything but the spaghetti straps and flip flops. This IS SoCal, and to me, these are reasonable things to wear. Obviously, there will always be exceptions and women wearing these things inappropriately.

that's sad!

I'm sure that you dress up and do your hair and make up every time you walk out your front door right? Sorry I don't have the time to get all dolled up to go down to road to buy what I need to make my family's dinner. I make sure my clothes are clean and you know what its Cali I wear flip flops year round. pretty much have for the last 10 years. Also being 30 weeks pregnant the last thing on my mind is putting on a pair of jeans and doing my make up to go get groceries. I'll stick with my yoga pants and tank tops, at least I know I don't look like a bum when I'm walking around.

I don't think a woman has to wear make-up. If she chooses to fine but not wearing it does not make her inappropriate.

I don't wear flip flops but almost everyone else I know does. Not sure what the problem is.

champatlife --- 13 years ago -

I think after a women moves out from her parents house- she can decide what she wants to wear. If she looks bad or if her husband looks bad, it's on her. I think mind your beeswax unless they smell funky.

(ps- i dont wear slippers out in public,ha)

mnicole07 --- 13 years ago -

wow.. no need to get all worked up cayoung!

Beach Body Mindy --- 13 years ago -

I have to agree. Ladies, we are all beautiful and should feel that way 24/7. If you like the comfy look then great, but you can be comfy, decent looking and feel great without the cartoon pj's. I will say that Cami tops are not appropriate without some sort of cover either.

champatlife --- 13 years ago -

Oh but on base they do have signs saying certain styles of shirts, and flip flops are a no go for civilian attire. (SO... THEORETICALLY- it's not "allowed."

Beach Body Mindy --- 13 years ago -

If I were to bump into my hubs out on base with coworkers id want him to be like there's my beautiful wife. Not there's my beautiful wife in Garfield pj's (yes, I saw this recently).

AnonyMISS --- 13 years ago -

Ok, let me get more specific about the flops, I too wear flip flops, but when you wear them with pajamas it doesn't help your cause. Flops with your outfit, cool, thats fine. Now, tank tops, as soon as you walk in the commissary or exchange or gym, there is a sign specifically saying, by marine corps order, that type of top is inappropriate on base, so, just wear a wider strap tank top and make sure your bra fits right so you dont have straps and crap hanging everywhere. And, I can't speak about being pregnant, but I know there are way to still be comfortable without being junky, especially if you have to go out. And, I never mentioned anything about pregnant women in the first place. And champatlife, I'm sorry you feel that way, but thats also part of adulthood, to be able to make decisions with what you want to do with your life, doesn't help anyone to bitch about it if you don't want to do anything about it.

champatlife --- 13 years ago -

I just have better things to worry about then someone else looking unkempt. Now, I do have an issue with Marines scrubbing it up, I could tell my 50 reasons why, but no need, and I don't get to tell them either- that their shave is lacking.

Beach Body Mindy --- 13 years ago -

I like when the shave is lacking. :)

mommywifey --- 13 years ago -

According to the rules and regulations on base, there are some signs that are posted at the entrances that tell you what proper civilian attire to where on a Marine Corps installation.

JediMommy --- 13 years ago -

Completely agree with you. I have actually seen an MP talk to a marine about going into the exchange when he was wearing pajama bottoms and a ratty old tshirt.
I am currently 9 months pregnant and just running to the commissary for something is a little hard for me but I put some effort into my outfit. You never know who you will run into. I have run into my husbands COs and that honestly does reflect upon him. Even if my husband wasnt a marine or anything I would still try to look my best for him even tho he says i look the best in sweats and no makeup. If you go out you should look appropriate. Not saying you have to go out in a ballgown but even just jeans that fit, a shirt that is not stained or anything, A bra that fits or for someof you even a bra.

champatlife --- 13 years ago -

haha, my husband had 30 days of leave and I was going insane, and he got an imaginary hair cut the other day, and I was like, "whats the point?" paying money and you can't tell- recruiting is lacking good barbers.

Beach Body Mindy --- 13 years ago -

Vb, you hit the nail on the head with a shirt that fits.

Beach Body Mindy --- 13 years ago -

Lol champ. We have that issue when we go on vacation in a non military town.

accountnickname --- 13 years ago -

recruiting is lacking good barbers

First thing my husband did after securing his new apartment (the kids and I have to wait until summer to follow) was go into the local Army Surplus store and ask them where to get a good haircut. Turned out to be a good move too, the barber is on the Chamber of Commerce, got to love small towns. :)

AnonyMISS --- 13 years ago -

Vb- amen sister :) beach body mindy- when my husband was a recruiter he could never find good haircuts either. And they were always soo dang expensive!

AnonyMISS --- 13 years ago -

Oops wrong name drop

Beach Body Mindy --- 13 years ago -

I think to each their own I also think you have no idea what has happened that day with them and why they look soooo HORRIBLE in your eyes. Live and let LIVE

rebel101 --- 13 years ago -

Meh, My husband works for an I and I station currently and does his own hair, a lot cheaper and still a good haircut.

champatlife --- 13 years ago -

when my husband was a recruiter he could never find good haircuts either. And they were always soo dang expensive!

my humor- husband went to the same lady twice first time paid 14- second time he went back and said, "you know I'm going to be coming here every week, she charged him $7. He came home, "I got a $7 haircut!!" I look, well that's nice did she actually cut your hair?" ---well, she did say, "I cut a lot less off than last time"I was like, "your hair was shorter last time before you saw her, why would she cut less? Did you look at it? "yeah... with my glasses off"

hahahah, our first barber shop out here was on the other side of the tracks, but the guy did awesome unfortunately both times he has called to see if the guy was working, he wasn't.

accountnickname --- 13 years ago -

My husband paid $8 for his first one and the barber almost wouldn't take the $2 tip. The second one 5 days later right before he started the barber only charged him $5. The surplus stores are where to go, lots of former military go hang out and relive the old days and many of them still maintain at least a pseudo-militaristic haircut. My husband got a perfect med. reg.
