To trick-or-treat? I personally think kids should trick-or-treat until THEY decide they are "too old." However, not everyone things like I do. So tell me, how old do you think it's too old for kids to go trick-or-treating?

p.s. I hate when people show up at my house CARRYING their children who are OBVIOUSLY under the age of 1, holding their "child's" bucket to get candy. Come on, we all know your kid ain't the one that's gonna get all that candy. LOL.

GardenWitch --- 12 years ago -

As long as you are dressed up, whatever age works for you. Just don't show up with camo paint and a pillowcase. So lame.

I buy some little thing's besides candy for the tiny kids. Poor parents.

YeaOk --- 12 years ago -

If a group of 17/18 year olds walked up in costume I'd give them candy.lol. I think when you graduate HS you don't need to be trick or treating any more.

xxxtheripperxxx --- 12 years ago -

I too get slightly irritated with the infants in costume, but whatever. What irks me is the parent trick or treating for the "sick kid at home". Really? You have a kid at home with raging diarrhea? Well give him this snickers and that'll fix 'em right up.

HotGeekChick --- 12 years ago -

if they dress up and are still in school, then its fine. i hate teens in no costume being rude. and the babies thing bothers me too. never had one for a sick kid. we are going this year and my son is 2. i still think it's too young. he will probably get a few pieces and then donate the rest.

Jersey Shore Chickie --- 12 years ago -

I'm trick or treating with my 5 month old. Only thing is a group of moms in my neighborhood are donating all the candy to the marines that are deployed in the neighborhood. I'm having a little sign on my sons stroller, My Treats R 4 Troops. Im diabetic & hubs is on WW with me, so no treats for us.

nicole --- 12 years ago -

Give them all candy. Babies or under two trick or treating is because parents are so excited to do things with their little ones and the first trick or treating is so exciting. They only last a few houses usually anyway so give the poor baby some candy. Don't pretend you weren't excited to do little things like that with your first (or you'll be there someday). As far as the older kids how often do you or do you hear people say they're just kids, or they need to be supervised or excuse juvenile behavior or criticize parents for not being more involved in their teenagers cause they're still kids. Well they can trick or treat if they want they're just kids. Just because they look all grown up doesn't mean they are. To the lady pissed about the sick kids at home. War if that kid looks forward to Halloween all year. They're sick and the rest of the family gets to go and they're too sick. Trick or treating for them can be a way for them to feel. Included. If you're handing out candy be nice and just give it to whoever knocks at the door.

chingao --- 12 years ago -

If they're too young to say "trick or treat" or for you paisas "cheek oh chee", then they don't need to be "trick or treating". If they are kids and not in costume, no trick or treating, if try are old enough to work and buy their own damn candy, no trick or treating.

HereAgain --- 12 years ago -

The way I see it if you are wearing a costume I will give you candy. To me it doesn't matter the age.

Champ --- 12 years ago -

My littles first Halloween she was a few months old, she didn't collect candy, but came out with her big sister. When she was 14 months she had a bucket, and only went to maybe 5 doors (mainly for picture purposes), and she walked to them spaced out. Even with my oldest turning 7 this yr, in general we never go past 1.5 hours, we don't need the candy, we usually still have xmas and Easter candy that needs to be thrown out still. It's just the novelty in my opinion. I have no idea who I would consider too old, I'd give anyone who comes to the door candy. My in laws give the parents in costume a beer.

sweetcheeks --- 12 years ago -

Come in people it's just candy!!! Lol who cares how old they are as long as they're respectful.

IrishTwinsx2plus1 --- 12 years ago -

Meh, I don't care. If they have a bucket and a costume, I give them candy. I don't care enough about who should or shouldn't be trick or treating to put so much thought into a topic like this LOL.

DoUntoOthers --- 12 years ago -

Absolutely agree. I think it's cute. However, I wish I didn't see parents with small babies and completely full buckets. Gimme a break. Go to a few houses, show off your cute child and then head home to hand out candy to the kids going to your house.

As for teenagers, it depends on the teen and their attitude. I think high school is getting close to the age when they shouldn't be going trick or treating, but I would never say that. It's just not worth my time to worry about it. If they come to my door, being all snarky or with an attitude, I will politely say something to them while I give them candy. (It's better to be nice when saying something so I don't get my house bombed with eggs!

Liberal Scumbag --- 12 years ago -

A girlfriend of mine keeps a bowl of ketchup packets that she collects from fast food places next to the door, and when the lazy teen with no costume shows up, she slips him/ her a ketchup packet. They're hard to distinguish from little candy packets until you pull them out of the pillowcase. LOL!

Me...if you're still creative enough and un-self-conscious enough to don a costume when you're 14 or 16, I'll reward you with candy. There's no age limit for me. Babies get the smallest unit of candy I have available...ONE packet of whatever I have.

Just don't hand me a Jesus tract when you come to my door. For that you'll get the broken lollipops and melted chocolates. ;-)

California760 --- 12 years ago -

I give candy to EVERYONE that comes up to my door because I'm too afraid someone will mess with my house, dog, cars, etc.

BUT if it is a parent holding a baby and their bucket, they get A piece of candy. I'm talking ONE small peanut butter cup!!! They're lucky they are not getting a swift kick in the ass because I think that is RIDICULOUS. If your kid can't walk, they sure don't need to be out roaming the streets at night!

The Elementary School/Junior High kids get the most candy because I think that's age appropriate.

Maleficent --- 12 years ago -

I don't care what age you are. I force candy on the parents that walk with their kids. It's Halloween it's supposed to be fun. I brought both my little ones around with their cousins and my youngest with her big sister and people wanted to give us candy.

Besides, some kids you really can't tell. My poor daughter just turned 11 but she is so developed and mature looking people think she is anywhere between 14-16.

Exactly and I love seeing the little ones dressed up. If they are wearing a costume they get candy. Halloween is all about dressing up, walking around and getting candy. My mom made us stop once we hit 6th grade. I remember it was such a bummer to us, not because we didnt get the candy but because it ruined Halloween. Who cares there age. Im not a big candy person, my kids still had Halloween candy as of a 2 months ago until I threw it out. We usually donate a lot of it to. The kids love going through there candy to take out stuff to give away. It makes them feel like they are doing something and they get to pick what goes. Stop being so crazy and gripping about the adults taking there little ones around, who cares. So they eat the candy, so they dont. How does it affect you? You buy the candy to give away right.

I'm going to voice the only dissenting opinion, but if you're old enough to buy it then you've grown out of it.

BooksRbetter --- 12 years ago -

My daughter was 6 days away from her first birthday last Halloween. She loved knocking on doors and walking around.
I think once you can vote you should stop trick or treating.

Ka101906 --- 12 years ago -

My baby was 2 months old on his first Halloween and we just dressed him up and strolled him around while his sibling went house to house for his own candies. We didn't collect any for the baby. This year we plan on collecting a little bit for the baby. We agreed not to take him up to every house his sibling goes to.

With that said..i think It is kinda not fair though about the baby thing. I only say this cause my child IS over the age of one BUT due to a muscle condition can NOT walk so he will be in our arms and we will be holding his bucket for him bc of this too.. he cant hold. He also CANT talk,..not by choice..we are teaching sign. I will say this though, even though he is allowed small amounts of candy on occasion, I will be eating some of his candy lol

I give candy to everyone. I think it's really fun!!

GardenWitch --- 12 years ago -

My candy bucket isn't just candy. I buy these mini play doh cups and some mini glow sticks or the glow wristlets. It's always been a big hit with parents and little kids. They'll take those before the candy every time. I also toss in some spider rings, or other "party" favors for the school age kids. It doesn't cost anymore than buying all candy.

Treats don't HAVE to be candy, so far my house has never been egged or Tp'd!

luvmymonkeys3 --- 12 years ago -

Wow, its a holiday. Why do people have to turn such a simple fun holiday into rules, and who can trick or treat. Its kids and candy, what kid doesn't want candy, its one night. As for the babies who cares, even the older children get their candy eaten by parents. There are far more important things in life to be concerned over than who is trick or treating.

NickiZ09 --- 12 years ago -

My daughter is 11 mos, we only plan on going to a couple houses down our road. It's her first Halloween. As a first time parent with young ones, it's fun to see them have their "firsts". Maybe its just me? i don't see what the big deal is for that?
