We haven't had a grammar thread in a long time so I thought I would start one. I get that some people don't care, what I don't get is that this stuff isn't hard to remember, doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that: THERE- is a location THEIR-is possessive (their house) THEY'RE- as in they are
AD- short for advertisement (notice one D) ADD- short for addition (notice two D's)
When the store closed, they forgot all about Jim and me.
Incorrect:
Me and him went to the store.
When the store closed, they forgot all about Jim and I.
If you're ever in doubt about which word to use (me or I), take out the other person (ie Jim). If you'd normally say Me then that's what you'd use, and vice versa. I see this used incorrectly alll the time when people try to sound smart and say "I" for EVERYTHING. If you're captioning a picture, say Bob and Me, not Bob and I.
Oh,and it's vice versa, not visa versa.
Oh, and it's I have swum, not swimmed, I have drunk, not drank or drinked. And it's "I hung a picture" and "They hanged him for his crimes." Okay, and last one, an historian, an historical book, an history course. Those are all correct. You will sound so much smarter if you use them correctly.
I could go on and on...grammar these days has gone to pot.
I have none. I am that one who does not notice when people spell things wrong, lol. Not a good thing. :0) I swear I have a degree, just not a good speller.
