We currently live in wm1 and are transferring to San o. Our carpet wasn't new when we moved here, housing said it was replaced in 2010, we've only been here since August of this year. The carpet also had red stains set in when we moved in, I did put that on the move in sheet. I was told by housing that they are going to blacklight the carpet before we move and if anything shows up we have to pay to have the carpet replaced. We don't have any pets and they know that. If they blacklight the carpet and say there's urine stains how do I prove they weren't from when we lived here so we don't have to end up paying to replace the carpet? Has anyone had any experience with this?

Hi...the only thing I think you can do is before you move out take pictures of everything carpets kitchen bathrooms...so when they say there were stains on the carpet you have proof that none are visible and that you never had pets...if they charge you tell them you have pictures.
I did that at an apartment complex and they tried charging me for extra cleaning fees I told them I had pictures of the apartment that showed a clean kitchen and they took off the extra charges...not sure how strict they are on military housing but if they do end up charging you that sucks!

I don't have personal experience with this but I know there are TONS of threads on this if you search at the top!

The black light is supposed to be used to pick up pet urine so I dont know how they are going to justify it if you never had a pet. If they say you have to pay for it just take it higher up the chain. The whole black light thing is ridiculous. It picks up way more than pet urine and they dont tell you before you move in to black light. But also if you have renters insurance they will cover it. Lincoln can be shisty.

Why not just buy a Blacklight and see for yourself what's in the rug BEFORE you even move in?

I'd do it with the person from Lincoln on the initial walk through, whether they liked it or not.

If people were informed of the procedure before move in Im sure they would. We werent informed before we moved in. We came from 29 Palms and the first time I heard of black lighting was when our neighbor was moving and she told us about it.

When we moved out of stuart mesa a year ago, they black lighted our old carpet. We were there less then six months before my husband got orders, we don't have pets, and I cleaned our carpets regularly. Lots of things showed up (nasty!) and we didnt get charged anything. Maybe they know how to tell if a stain is new or old? I would try not to worry unless it actually becomes an issue and you have to deal with it. Good luck!

wow... I didn't know they actually use a black light, I thought it was a bunch of bull they just say they do. Interesting for sure.

My dog never went on our carpet once and they said they had to change it, if anything it was juice and my son maybe like twice. It's always such a rush no one ever sees the proof.
