Yeah I am bored at the moment. My kids are all down for a nap, house is cleaned and I finished all my school work. My husband gives me plenty of attention I have no complaints in that department. But you obviously are looking for attention with your post on the other thread. I do post positive and helpful things occasionally but when someone comes on and posts something stupid like this I cant help myself.
I teach mine to play in the street particularly if there is a car coming. I could use the 100K from their life insurance. See that car now run out in front of it, lol. When people are driving thru base housing they need to be aware, it is base housing. Lots of children all over.
It's 15mph for a reason. Whatever happened to people paying attention to where they were driving instead of texting/facebooking/anything else but looking at the road.
Yes, blame those pesky drivers for driving where they are supposed to.. Cars on the road have right of way over individuals running and playing in it, except for crosswalks.
That is not correct. Pedestrians ALWAYS have the right-of-way in California no matter where they are. Note that I am not advocating for children to be in streets.
It goes for teens too. A week ago i had one step off the curb in front of me and start walking down the middle of the street while i was going thru a residential area. He was listening to his iPod totally oblivious.
I braked, then creeped till i was about 3 ft from him, he was still oblivious, then i laid on my horn and scared the bejeezus out of him...LOL I think he had to change his drawers when he got home..LOL

According to the CA DMV: :
Right-of-Way at Crosswalks
21950. (a) The driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within any marked crosswalk or within any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection, except as otherwise provided in this chapter. (b) This section does not relieve a pedestrian from the duty of using due care for his or her safety. No pedestrian may suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into the path of a vehicle that is so close as to constitute an immediate hazard. No pedestrian may unnecessarily stop or delay traffic while in a marked or unmarked crosswalk. (c) The driver of a vehicle approaching a pedestrian within any marked or unmarked crosswalk shall exercise all due care and shall reduce the speed of the vehicle or take any other action relating to the operation of the vehicle as necessary to safeguard the safety of the pedestrian. (d) Subdivision (b) does not relieve a driver of a vehicle from the duty of exercising due care for the safety of any pedestrian within any marked crosswalk or within any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection. Amended Sec. 8, Ch. 833, Stats. 2000. Effective January 1, 2001. Pedestrians Outside Crosswalks 21954. (a) Every pedestrian upon a roadway at any point other than within a marked crosswalk or within an unmarked crosswalk at an intersection shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles upon the roadway so near as to constitute an immediate hazard. (b) The provisions of this section shall not relieve the driver of a vehicle from the duty to exercise due care for the safety of any pedestrian upon a roadway.
I should have stated that a driver must ALWAYS yield to a pedestrian. It doesn't matter if the pedestrian should or should not be where they are, the driver must still yield.
No pedestrian may unnecessarily stop or delay traffic while in a marked or unmarked crosswalk.
That totally happened to me yesterday! My husband and I were the first in line at a red light for a protected left turn. While we were waiting for the light to turn green, a guy started walking across the street in the cross walk. He stopped in front of our car, our light turned green but because he was just standing in the way, we couldn't go! Cars behind us were honking at us too, but there was nothing we could do. Once our light turned red, then the pedestrian continued along his way and finished crossing the street. We completely missed the light because of this guy. Makes me wonder what is wrong with the guy...
When I was a kid we rode our bikes in the road, played ball in the road, jump roped etc. We'd see a car and we'd yell, "car" and we'd all run over into the grass.
My girls don't play in the road, but we have a huge double driveway, and an extra concrete slab, and another large concrete area in our backyard, I don't think kids in the road is the issue, it's the lack of paying attention to their surroundings, and lack of supervision, and teaching kids they don't own the road and the human body is inferior to a 2,000lb car.
There's a difference between letting your toddlers actually play in the road and driving 30mph down an alley where you couldn't possibly brake for a child. We live on a culdasac and have a place where they can play in from where cars can't go but that's not always the case with other homes.
I braked, then creeped till i was about 3 ft from him, he was still oblivious, then i laid on my horn and scared the bejeezus out of him...LOL I think he had to change his drawers when he got home..LOL
I have children, and yes, they ride their bikes in the street out in front of the house, and they know to be aware of cars. What annoys me, is when they put out the cones and let their children who are clearly playing in the middle of the road with their dolls and toy cars, which could easily be played on the sidewalk in front of their home, or even their driveway.
Oh I find this post funny- you must be one of my neighbors. This block is insane with kids playing in sprinklers in the middle of the road etc. and we have a park right at the end of the street. ??
And of course there's cardboard signs to slow down for children lol
But on a serious note it's back to school day wahooooo so pay extra close attention :)
My neighbors and I sit outside and watch for cars as our children ride their bikes or scooters, when we see a car we yell "CAR" and it's like the party of the red see in 2 secs, what gets me are the people driving so fast on our street 2 secs is barely fast enough and we are at the end of the culdesac. Now the kid in the middle of our street where the T intersection is, they are horrible, they put stuff in the street and don't move it for cars they run into the street right in front of cars they don't care and their parents are nowhere to be found. I have been told to slow the cars down I should put cones in a line down the middle of the street but housing says all items must be moved out of the street for oncoming traffic, what to do????? (I did tell an MP the other day if they ever want to catch speeders set up at the end of my street, he happened to be driving by while my kids were out)
That's the thing the road is for driving not playing... 15 mph is fast and kids could die!!! Why teach your kid it's ok to play in the street? There are a million parks and side walks.... That's where you should be teaching your kids to play...... Not the road. Then get mad because people do 15mph??? Smart real smart
I know, right. The street isn't yours to preside over the drivers since the street is the only legitimate place a car is allowed lol. Also, don't expect EVERY SINGLE parent to be watching their kids. A LOT of people let their children run wild who are UNDER the housing age to be out alone. I'm not making a case for almost hitting a kid, but there have been random kids in CA killed for laying on their skateboards who in the dark of night ridden into the street and gotten killed. Kind of like a deer appearing out of nowhere. Doesn't matter if you're watching the road, driving the speed limit--it's still going to spook you and catch you off guard.
You are in base housing and should always drive being aware of that. The street isnt only for cars. Its for bikes and other things also. I dont get mad at people as long as they are going the speed limit and not using the phone. Kids need to also be respectful and pay attention. When a car is coming get out of the road.
Unless it's a school zone you really have no reason to override and overrule cars in the street, where cars belong. The street is not designated for children to play in REGARDLESS that this is housing. Actually, there is a bike lane on the majority of roads and it is suggested that people utilize that when available. That's what it's there for as well as SIDEWALKS.
It's illegal to j walk & play in the street. Not to mention stupid. While you try to justify your ignorant parenting skills be thankful that people care about the children darting in the roads, playing in the roads, laying in the roads. So we scoot along at 3 mph but that one time, that one person, that one accident is bound to happen. Pray it's not your child.
My ignorant parenting skills? You dont even know me. Grow up. I live in a couldasac where everyone has children and they all ride in the road so everyone knows to drive slow and be on the look out. My children also know if a car is coming to get out of the road. And where does it say its illegal to play in the road? No where because its not illegal. Yes it is illegal to jwalk but that is something totally different. Some of my best memories as a child is playing football in the road as family. You obviously have some issues. Do everyone a favor and get them under control before you get behind the wheel.
My kid rides her bike to school and the f ucking bike lane on carnes rd (near Santa Margarita) was blocked by people too lazy to walk their kids to school (or in a small amount of cases live kinda far or whatever other special circumstance here) so it's either walk or go in the traffic lane slightly. I'd rather her walk but she should have the option. And her back pack is heavy so she rides.
Actually, riding a bike on the sidewalk is prohibited only where it has been specifically made prohibited-it's not a universal law. In CA it IS a law that you must use the bike lane where there is one. If there is a sidewalk-bike lane-road-road-bike lane guess where the bike must travel. A skateboarder does not own the right to a road; if there is no sidewalk (meaning they CAN use the sidewalk) you have to use the extreme left side of the road and are typically denied access to bridges and overpasses with NO sidewalk.. You still have no "right" to turn your cul de sac into a playground and tell the cars To deal with it. CHP deems motor vehicles to have the right to the road.
