I have two cribs that I'm not sure what to do with. One is a white convertible crib and the other is a beautiful cherry sleigh style convertible crib that was maybe $800. Both have the drop sides though. I know that they can no longer be sold, but can they be given away? What if the sides were immobilized so they could no longer drop?

shizzlemydizzle --- 13 years ago -

Contact the manufacturer of the cribs and see if they have a kit to convert them.

If not, they are not supposed to be used.

pandamanda0719 --- 13 years ago -

If you make them no longer able to "drop" you can sell it I believe

YouReallyThinkSo --- 13 years ago -

Contact the manufacturer and if they cant send you a kit they will find another way to compensate you. When I bought our crib I didnt like the drop down so it was always made to not drop down. Good luck

If you want to recycle one here is a good way to use it a diffrent way.

i second the contact the manufacturer, they will refund you or you can just bring it to the store where you got it! I would call ahead though!

You can also make it into a bench and then the sides into a corner chair. Just google crib chairs

I returned mine to Walmart and have sent a few people back to Walmart for a total refund.

I think there are kits you can buy to make it stable and not a drop down.

Can you bring the crate back if it's 5years old. I got a used crib from my sister who got it from a friend. It's in great shape and looks like new but it's a drop down crib. My husband and I don't have kids yet but we took it since my sister didn't have room for it. Just not sure what to do with it now. I'm not really a crafty person so I know I said there are chairs and stuff made out of these cribs but I don't see myself making anything out of it

According to the laws I've now looked up even with adding a kit (if available) I am still not allowed by law to give it away. Apparently my only option is to throw them away or otherwise repurpose them. As I am not a crafty individual, I suppose that leaves me to throw them away.

I would try to contact the company first. You never know.

You cannot legally sell or donate it. You could try recycling it OR if you have the room, store it until toys r us/babies r us has their incenitive sale (you take in used baby items and receive 10-20% off any new baby item).

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I don't have the purchase information anymore and one of them was not even purchased by me so I wouldn't feel right about trying to get money back. For those who have PMed me and asked me to give it to them, I'm sorry but that is illegal for me to do.

We are moving which is why I finally need to do something about it. My youngest is 5 and we aren't having more babies so the coupon would not help me. I never used the cribs anyway, we co-slept.

Like I said, I'm not crafty. I'm not going to make something else from it. Not to mention a sleigh style crib would not work for that. We have 9 bookshelves already as it is. I'm switching my kids over to kindles because I don't need to buy more books.

By chance does it have a sticker anywhere on it with the model number? Were they considered "convertible"? If so perhaps you could take the drop side off and give it as a toddler bed (destroy the dropside) not sure if it still makes it illegal, but if so before throwing it out make sure to break out the slats to ensure no one picks it up out of the garbage.

accountnickname --- 13 years ago -

Both have all the model information. Both convert to both a toddler bed as well as a headboard/footboard for a full size bed.

Champ --- 13 years ago -

In my nonprofessional opinion on what's legal and what's not, but as long as there hadn't been a recall (i Google searched my daughters old crib when I got it out for the new baby, and it had been recalled) I would think giving it to someone without the dropside to use as a toddler bed would be legal, and they can use the model # to order a toddler rail if they want.

Champ --- 13 years ago -

Perhaps the company could tell you if that would be allowed, if so selling (if you desired) may be an option

Jayne Wayne --- 13 years ago -

look on pinterest.... there are tons of cool things to do with old cribs...

Thanks but I'm not crafty and have no intention of trying to repurpose it myself. If someone else wanted to they would be welcome to.

If the crib was bought at Walmart, try taking it back.

Hokey*Pokey --- 13 years ago -

if you will ever be buying more baby equipment (stroller, car seat, crib, high chair, etc), you can take it to toys r us when they have their promotions (you take back a used baby item and get 25% off a new baby item). They do these promotions at least a couple times a year

accountnickname --- 13 years ago -

Thanks Shizzle. Yep, no more babies for us unless God has other plans for us.

Liz, not from Walmart. One came from AAFES and the other I did not purchase. My mom bought it for my (now) sister when she arrived in their home as a foster child at 6 weeks old.
