My heart goes out to the family...local news media early on were spinning this to make the Marine look bad. How does a morning Prayer walk go so wrong? If you google the early news reports...they spin it to sound as though he was racing away from police to avoid a stop. School notices stayed neutral, perhaps because our Principal is prior military. Regardless of the situation, my heart goes out to his wife and daughters and unborn child.
They said highly decorated, but I didn't see anything special listed and he's a 14 yr Sgt?? Something is off either with the reporting or the circumstances.
His family lives in Onofre housing so a few of the topics have been deleted on facebook for their family.
The news said he was running and the cop shot him but when they showed the video of his vehicle being towed away the drives window appeared to be shot out. The damage to the vehicle from hitting the pole appeared to be nothing at all. His friends said he ran the track at the High School every morning before work and that his 2 daughters were in the backseat at the time. Just a sad story.

REALLY sad story.. Hope someone is reaching out to the wife and kids :(
This is such a heartbreaking story. I've been wondering if he had some kind of medical emergency that caused his behavior to appear erratic. Very sad. Many prayers for him and his family.
You'll have to read many articles to start to understand. He went to the track most mornings with the family...called it a prayer walk as his Mother did with him. The ofiicer was doing paperwork in the school parking lot when the Marine allegedly drove in too fast hitting the gate. The Marine exited the vehicle walking towards the track. The deputy says he ordered him to stop, instead the Marine headed back to his car. Lates news tonight says the deputy new the kids were in the car and feared for their safety...Is this why he gunned him down in front of his children. I have a 14 year old too..If I hear another newscaster say that the children were not harmed, I'll explode! They watched their Father be gunned down! I pray that the Marine was innocent in all this. Another article stated that the wife normally went too, but was too pregnant to walk that morning. I ignored all the news comments on his decorations....surprised they have not referred to him as soldier! If anyone knows the family...please tell them many of us are praying for them. Their oldest has an open invitation to attend Fellowship of Christian Ahtletes on Sunday nights with our daughter here in San Clemente...they pray for each other and have weekly speakers. She is welcome anytime!
^^^ yeah I read a number of stories, I still don't understand it at all! If I was his wife I think I'd go bizerk! (unless she knows some more info connecting the dots) because really nothing adds up. No one says why he was speeding, why he wrecked, also they say "crashed through a gate in many stories" no one says why the cop actually felt threatened (or thought the girls were in danger). It's just a mess, and I hope that cop gets suspended for a long time or permanently unless he can make things a little more clear on his part.

Perhaps the policeman was well aware of the very recent tragic news story concerning the Powell family (particularly the two young boys) and was concerned for the girls' safety due to erratic behavior by the father.
Sounds like a government cover up for someone in the military that knew too much and threatened to say something. How about the crew that killed osama and now they're all conveniently dead?
Very sad. I'm not going to judge either side. I've read things on both ends. A few people have commented to articles about knowing more details and not to judge until the whole story is told. Don't know if its BS or what but I pray for the kids and wife no matter who's at fault, they weren't.
Sounds like PTSD to me. I'm with Chapatlife. 14 years and still a SGT? Hm. And 4:30am isn't that early when it says in the article that he was going on a run around the track with his kids. He has to be at work in the next 2 hours and his kids would have to be at school, showered, and ready. Sad story. Authorities and Military personnel are going to keep a lot of details hush hush, so I'm not surprised this doesn't make complete sense right now.
Oh, and I'm not saying he did anything wrong - but how he wasn't listening to police commands and with him speeding sounds like PTSD. I just researched it and he was with 3/5 in Sangin, Afghanistan. My husband is infantry, so we hear about all the previous deployments - that deployment was extremely bad. Devastating story.
He was a property management clerk, how on earth would he ever deploy with 3/5?
"Capt. Barry Edwards, a Camp Pendleton spokesman, said Loggins had not been deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan during his career.
"His personal decorations include a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, two Navy Unit Commendations, three Marine Corps Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, a Korean Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal," according to a release from Camp Pendleton."

How is busting down a gate putting your children in a harmful situation requiring you to shoot and kill someone??
I could understand if he was speeding, swerving, and driving recklessly...and then throwing a tantrum outside the car, or yelling at his kids, or something...
arent police officers not supposed to shoot unless the person they are shooting has a gun too?? Couldnt a tazer have worked just fine??
This sounds like maybe the officer had PTSD...or was on a power trip...considering they mentioned the officer is a veteran...
Have you seen pictures of the damage to his vehicles? There is just an area of transfer, no dents or other damage that I saw. I'm not sure who that happens if he smashed through a gate in the way in which has been characterized. I did read that the gate which was normally open (which he went through all the time) was closed for some reason that day. Perhaps he just didn't see until it was too late, and perhaps he was agitated because he just had a small accident.
Personally, I think it's more likely the cop was there sleeping not expecting people to be at a school at that time of the morning and was startled by the arrival of the Marine. If you look at the timeline in his calls, he did not call in child endangerment until several minutes after his initial call and called in the shooting very soon after. If the children were truly in danger, why did they not remove them from the situation during the 5 minutes in which they say the Marine was away from his vehicle? The whole story is sketchy.
