im thinking about cloth diapering but idk if i have the stomach for it.i just remember when my daughter had blowouts lol.

Barbie --- 13 years ago -

I never understood what people mean when they say they don't have the stomach for it? I'm really not trying to sound snotty I just don't understand what the big difference is. Either way there's still poop involved....
I personally cloth diaper and wouldn't choose any other way but I did try disposable ones for a week or so. My son had a wicked diaper rash that wouldn't go away so I tried everything and anything! Less work which I like but they wasn't as cute ;)

SoonToBeJD --- 13 years ago -

These are my thoughts on it. I really couldn't care less what others do.

Disposable all the way. It's not expensive, so I don't know why people complain about the price. It's efficient. If you're on the go, you don't have to carry around poop in a diaper bag; you throw it away. I wiped enough poop. Why would I want to clean more of it when I'd have to wash diapers at the end of the day? That's just more work. I'd rather do anything (almost) other than clean poop. Work smart, not hard. :o)

EastCoastChik --- 13 years ago -

Its different because you wipe and throw the diaper away. Cloth diapers you have to rinse etc. Thats what i meant about not having the stomach for it. Im just curious about cloth diapering.

HarlequinSoul --- 13 years ago -

I got a great deal in 40 cloth diapers and inserts for about 89 bucks on eBay. :-) I won't need then for a while now, but I am really excited to try them. I don't have any friends who use cloth but I have friends who have tried and fell off the wagon. But my mom cloth diapered me and my two sisters and said she loved it!

So my plan is to get one of those beday sprayers that attaches to the tank on.your toilet and then we can spray the diapers off right into the toilet and then put rinsed disorder in a pail until ready to wash a load. Then, I will also be using those biodegradable disposables for when we are out and about and for when my husband watches the baby because he has issues with poop and having to touch it lol. It literally triggers his gag reflex lol.

Can't wait to put my plan into practice! Here's hoping we will conceive again soon. :-3

Poe --- 13 years ago -

I'm planning on using disposable. I travel a lot and work full time so it seems like the easier route for myself and the daycare.

Toodles --- 13 years ago -

We just switched to cloth diapers (pocket diapers) I like them so far, since my baby is a newborn, all I have to do for now is just toss the whole thing in the wash, no dumping out the poo yet anyways...

accountnickname --- 13 years ago -

I used cloth because it was better for my kids' skin. As a bonus I didn't get the blow outs like I did with disposables and I saved our family money. The first 6 months when my kids were only breastfed (no solids) it was sooooo easy.

accountnickname --- 13 years ago -

Cloth diapers you have to rinse etc

I never once had to do that. When they are breastfed with no solids you don't have to do anything. Once they start solids you just have to shake anything solid into the toilet and flush. Some people do spray or do wet pail methods, but I personally never did and never had a problem.

AZbound --- 13 years ago -

Cloth diapers BY FAR.....we've spent less than $300 for all the diapers we need (including newborn)...that alone is enough for me. Use a diaper sprayer and spray off the diapers when your child has a bowel movement or you can use the disposable liners to make it easier. Just throw the liner in the toilet, poop and all!
Technically with disposables you're supposed to put the poop in the toilet just like cloth but no one does it.
Not to mention how much better it is for your baby (less rashes, etc) and for the environment!
It's not for everyone but for us there's no comparison.
You can also get adorable colors/prints.

jaimemike --- 13 years ago -

We use cloth on the triplets. We decided to do it to save money. We continue to do it for so many more reasons. I love them! I have 6 kids including the trips and it's not that much work.

grantsmommy --- 13 years ago -

its become some of a "hobby" for me. I love buying new diapers and seeing how cute they are on my guy. I do use rice paper liners since he is a "predictable popper" so that i just flush most of the mess away and i just add diapers to the washer like a normal load of laundry. Its not cheaper for us but we do like the environmental aspect of not throwing feces into a landfill

Fiestafreak --- 13 years ago -

Cloth Diapers!! We've saved so much money and no more diaper rash! Also feel better because I'm not putting diapers into the landfill.

I am transitioning my son into cloth diapers. I still use disposable for when we are on the go for a long period of time or if he gets a bad rash(I have bot bought the correct cream for cloth diapers). I am also pregnant with twins so having 3 kids under the age of 2 in diapers and buying them every few weeks seems expensive. I have prefolds and use the two in one diapers from Grovia. I would suggest checking out Babies in Bloom in Vista for their next cloth diapering class and go to it. They go over all the different kinds out there and can make up your mind. Also there are a lot of threads on PU about cloth diapers too. Take a look at those as well.

Vod Kaknockers --- 13 years ago -

Actually it is expensive. We use disposable as well but I know that we spend $20 a payday, which doesn't sound all that expensive BUT when you put that into how long a child is in diapers (depending on the child) it is usually over $1000 in just diapers alone. As of right now we have spent $1300 in diapers.

We plan on using cloth with the next one, because it is cheaper.

better it is for your baby (less rashes

This isn't always true, our daughter has had 3 rashes in 2 1/2 years. Our neighbor's son (who is the same age and they use cloth) has had one about once a month.

Champ --- 13 years ago -

I wanted to do cloth diapers with my last, but my husband talked me out of it saying with him deployed I wouldn't want an extra hing to do. I still wish I would have done it, now. Pregnant now and I'm considering it again (or a mix of doing both)

and whoever said it's not "expensive" I guess it depends on your definition. I don't consider cigarettes expensive (I don't smoke) but I would hate to see that money coming out every month. We spend $50 a month (2 boxes of big diapers, and 1/2 box night time diapers)That's aprox $1200 at least in her diaper career (f she's potty trained by age 2). They sell one size diapers for less than $25 each (for the "name brand" ones. Which takes most kids through potty training. Most do diaper laundry every 1.5-2 days. So that's a decent savings.

For anyone wanting to test out cloth MommaKitty is having a flash sell right now.

She's on the PUSS, so, not really safe or secure giving her your shipping/payment info and trusting she wouldn't divulge it.

CD, she is no longer on that page.

la*dee*da --- 13 years ago -

wow, insinuating someone would commit a federal crime, your a winner

Trace --- 13 years ago -

La*dee, I don't know why you're shocked since clinical depression had no problem breaking federal laws herself.

la*dee*da --- 13 years ago -

Ha, she assumes everyone is a low life like her then, gotcha.

Sad existence.

Trace --- 13 years ago -

Pretty much!

Taminator --- 13 years ago -

I didnt use cloth diapers but some people put the disposable liners in the diaper instead of rinsing them off. They look like dryer sheets and are flush able. Helps with the ewww factor

EastCoastChik --- 13 years ago -

Yea we decided to stay with reg disposables.. Esp. Since at the sitters he will be in them and when dad is alone with him lol. So no point in getting them if he will only use em about 25% of the time..
