I know it's known that NWS PMO has 0 tolerance to speeding but I feel they are going a bit overboard. I recently recieved a speeding ticket for going 48 in a 35MPH zone. What you need to beware of is that they park next to where the 35 zone turns into 45MPH and will cite you if you are going over 35 MPH as you cross the plane of the sign.

This is right by the enterance to NWS, I don't think its right and I have seen them pull someone over multiple times after I got pulled over. The park in plane site and I am sure people do not think they are doing anything wrong so I wanted to warn you guys

Of course they also hang out at the camp pendleton/NWS gate where the limit is 15MPH.

accountnickname --- 13 years ago -

That's how it is everywhere I've lived, military or not. The new speed limit starts at the sign and you are supposed to slow down prior to reaching it. The signs are made big enough so you can see it before you reach them.

TweedleDee2 --- 13 years ago -

Well, if you knew the 35 mph sign was there, don't you think you would have slowed down BEFORE coming to it just so by the time you got to it you would be abiding by it?

they need to hang out more up here on Deluz rd where its the same thing...people NEVER go the speed they are suppose too :( They don't hand out enough tickets if you ask me

El Borracho --- 13 years ago -

I just moved to Temecula and didn't frequent NWS before. I though it was all 45MPH, I would not knowingly speed when there is a cop in plain sight. I actually even had the car in cruise control, but now I know. They will pull you over for going 1MPH over the speed limit.

If you need increased PMO presence then call and request it.

believe me we have, and they dont come :( we have iced, they come for a day or two and then you see NO sign of them EVER. Specially in housing, fools speed down our road ALL the time, blow the stop sign...it amazes me how people specially in housing don't have common sense not to drive that fast through housing when kids run in the road constantly. Im surprised a little kid has not gotten hurt already

accountnickname --- 13 years ago -

We had the same issues when we moved into DeLuz 6 1/2 years ago and nothing has ever been done. My street was in front of the school and people treated it like just some random non-housing short-cut. More than once I was blocked in my own driveway by someone who decided to park and leave their car there as if that is a totally acceptable thing to do.

Fuego --- 13 years ago -

Of course they will pull you over for going 1 mile over the speed limit because 1 mile over is considered speeding. 48MPH in a 45MPH zone is still speeding as well.

Didn't you see the sign coming up? Or did it come out of nowhere, right as you were passing it?

I don't think you will have to pay, just go to traffic court on base and get a point or two on your base driving record, so chalk it up to a lesson learned.

TweedleDee2 --- 13 years ago -

But feugo is right speedign is speeding. Getting pulled over for going 1mph IMO is going over board but going almost 50 in a 35..I'd probably pull you over too ;)

Live and learn though right :)

we live in North DeLuz down the main road...people are constatnly flying down the street and look at you like your the problem when you yell at them to slow down lol

SinCitygrl1 --- 13 years ago -

And requesting more PMO presence in a neighborhood/area is a joke.

Thing is..they can't "hide"... So, what do you do when you see an MP?? You obey the traffic laws.

We live in Oneill...people blow the stop signs and speed down our streets all the time. PMO comes out, people see it, they do they right thing.

Who said they cant hide? the last time I saw PMO up here on DeLuz road was they were behind the bush just as you come up the hill (as your coming from the hospital) and in front of N DeLuz

But yah asking for more prescence is a joke unfortuneatly and Icing them is just the same

SinCitygrl1 --- 13 years ago -

The MP that came up to Oneill Heights to "monitor" the area one morning when the kids were waiting for the bus. He parked completely visible on the corner of Los Padres and Sequoia. When we asked him about it "Like, hey, duh, who are you gonna catch like that"... he said that they can't hide (although I have seen them on the EMS dirt road behind N. Deluz). Who knows. That would be an awesome question for CivMP!

StacesSweetheart --- 13 years ago -

Who said they cant hide?

They have can sit behind a bush all they want, they just have to at least have their small lights on (one by each of the headlights and taillights I believe) and be in a place visible by an oncoming motorist. It's entrapment if they hide without their lights.

laneys mommy --- 13 years ago -

13 over isn't a lot? Has nothing to do with the base. 13 over there are a lot of places on and off base they will ticket you. Don't move to Virginia. They love giving tickets for 5 or more over.

El Borracho --- 13 years ago -

geez, anyone live off base?

Poe --- 13 years ago -

You will get pulled over off base for going 13 over.

accountnickname --- 13 years ago -

I do. I've also managed to have my license for 15 years and never gotten a ticket.

El Borracho --- 13 years ago -

Probably because you spend your day on this website. I just came on to warn you guys about a speed trap, make a new threat to talk about PMO on your base housing block

accountnickname --- 13 years ago -

Bwahahaha yeah that's the only reason why.

Poe --- 13 years ago -

If you need a warning you also need a ticket IMO.

shizzlemydizzle --- 13 years ago -

Doing 13 over the speed limit is NOT getting caught in a speed trap.

YOU.WERE.SPEEDING.

Anything over 10 miles an hour out in town is a $200 ticket.

Jersey Shore Chickie --- 13 years ago -

I got pulled over on base, over by the air station where it goes 55, 45, 35... in the process of slowing down, doing 38 in the 35. About 1/10th of a mile after the sign.

CharlieWhiskey2 --- 13 years ago -

Some times yes, they go overboard but on the other side of base (I live on the North side aka San Clemente) no one gets caught! Every single day, almost every car taking Stuart Meds RD was speeding.
If you get a ticket on base, you just pay it off. Points only count if the service member is driving and it gets taken from them. If you are going 15 or more over, (or the mp just wants to be a jerk) you get a federal ticket which is way more since you were speeding on a military compound. Be thankful they didn't give you a federal one too.

shizzlemydizzle --- 13 years ago -

Dependents can lose driving priviliges on base too.

StacesSweetheart --- 13 years ago -

doing 38 in the 35

This will happen even off base.

CivMP --- 13 years ago -

Over 13 will get you a cite every day. Squeaky wheel gets the grease. Most of the speeders in housing are residents. The provost marshal does not want us to hide, we don't need to hide, because violators come to us. If I see you violate a law, I will at least have a chat with you, if not a cite. Nws has a low tolerance level for speeding.

Hokey*Pokey --- 13 years ago -

this is ridiculous. You were speeding even if the speed limit was 45. The fact that you failed to even START slowing down until after you hit the 35 mph sign is your fault and poor driving. Unless you were going even faster in the 45 mph zone and 48 WAS slowing down, which is also poor driving. No matter which way you slice it, you were speeding and deserve a ticket.

I hate when people blame others for their actions. It wasn't a trap. Own up to your mistakes like an adult.

TweedleDee2 --- 13 years ago -

ding ding ding! (then they have the gall to get all pissy when they get caugh!this is ridiculous. You were speeding even if the speed limit was 45. Vod Kaknockers --- 13 years ago -

So you were doing 13 over the speed limit, and you are complaining about getting a ticket?

I have only ever gotten 1 speeding ticket in my 14 years of driving and that was when I was 18. I learned my lesson, I don't speed and I start slowing down BEFORE I get to the speed limit sign.

I don't understand why you are so upset about getting a ticket, when you were doing 48 in a 35.

MangoTango --- 13 years ago -

Unless an MP forced you to speed, its not entrapment. Speeding is rampant everywhere on base, along with complete lack of basic driving know-how. Stop signs are suggestions, lines mean nothing, laws regarding cell phone usage are ignored and the list goes on. But complaining doesn't solve anything. So drive safely and legally and lead by example. And if no one follows, yell profanities in your head at all the bad drivers and pat yourself on the back for playing by the rules.

Mom25 --- 13 years ago -

While living at Quantico, I heard of loads of peole getting citations for as little as one mile over. They loved to grab folks leaving mainside, heading towards the main gate, in front of the War Fighting School turn. I never fool around on base. The speed limit begins and ends at the sign...the law is the law.
