We are a family of 4. Two adults and two small kids, a 4 year old and a one year old. Is getting a zoo membership worth it? Thanks.

BlueBettas --- 13 years ago -

I would think that all depends on how often you plan on going. Look at the cost of the membership fee is, compared to the cost of tickets for one outing. Then determine how many times you would have to go before it would cost less to have that membership instead of paying for the tickets each time.

Worth every single penny!! No doubt about it!
Just in case you're not aware...your husband doesn't need a membership. He gets in free all the time if he's active duty =0)

DaniP --- 13 years ago -

AZbound, thank you. I didn't know he got in free everytime.

AZbound --- 13 years ago -

Youre welcome. He just needs to show his ID at the gate.
We go to the zoo in the summer cause it's cooler there and the wild animal park in the winter.
When you get a membership you get in free to both parks, free sky ride at the zoo, zoo has free parking, free tram ride at the WAP, and they let you bring in outside food, free guest passes and other coupons.
Our membership was around $135 for two adults and two kids. I think your youngest might get in free but don't quote me on that.

I think its totally worth it. We go almost every two weeks or whenever my husband has duty. My son is 2 and he gets in for free. We didnt know that active duty military gets in for free so we have been paying for a membership, however with the membership you get on the tour bus for free (I believe) and military doesn't. Also with a membership you get passes for free admission, which is great when your family comes to visit. Also coupons for meals and the gift shop. I think its definitely worth the money spent if you plan on going more than once a year.

Up to what age are kids free for the zoo? Do you have to pay once they turn 3 or 4?

KnightRider --- 13 years ago -

zoo tickets

It says child tickets are 3-11

AZbound --- 13 years ago -

KnightRider---Active duty DOES get the skyfari and the tram for free also. They just show their ID like we show our membership card. =0)

I'm thinking it would be a great deal! I was just reading the letter they sent me! Thanks for letting me know that AD was free! That saves so much money!

I got the diamond membership. Our family is a 10 year old, 1 year old, my husband and I. $135 membership covered my 10 year old and I and the 1 year old and hubby were free. I also got free parking at the safari park. Also, if you buy from ITT its a 14 month membership.

DaniP --- 13 years ago -

This is great info. So you pay $135 and get a membership to cover you for a whole year or 14 months? Both the zoo and safari park?

Clinical Depression --- 13 years ago -

If you go to ITT the Diamond Club 14 month San Diego Zoo AND Safari Park pass is $140.

Clinical Depression --- 13 years ago -

If you buy the Diamond Membership from the Zoo itself the pass is $149 + tax for only 12 months.

KnightRider --- 13 years ago -

Oh, the lady at the zoo told me active duty couldn't.

AZbound --- 13 years ago -

KnightRider--if you're talking about the bus at the zoo....which now I think you are....no one gets in free to that one, not even members. You do get a couple of free passes with your membership but that's it. You always get in free to the TRAM at the WAP and the SkyFari (dunno how to spell it?) at the zoo & so does AD

KnightRider --- 13 years ago -

oh ok, well thank you I was misinformed

Taminator --- 13 years ago -

We got the diamond club membership for the free parking at the animal park. We go a lot so it's worth it
