Anyone know if they are finally going to get rid of them anytime soon? Seeing as none of the other branches are using them. I figured they might be doing a test run with the gates since they've be doing "100%" I.D. checks.

Vod Kaknockers --- 10 years ago -

There are other branches that do use them, I think it depends on the base.

accountnickname --- 10 years ago -

When did the other branches stop using them? I've been around the military for over 30 years and every base I lived at used them. I've not been to any other bases in quite a few years though.

MrsFree --- 10 years ago -

Air Force stopped a while back (Dad is Ret.)
I think the Army do anymore either.
Navy Idk
Coast Guard Idk

It depends on the base, not the branch. Most Air Force bases don't use them but there are still some that do. Every Marine Corps base that I have been to still uses them, every Army base I have been to still uses them too.

So no yay or nay? I wish this base would. Its not like they're making much difference. When we got a new car I accidentally pulled out a store rewards card while driving on and no one noticed. It's just such a hassle we have an old jeep thats always fails the inspection cause a light in the dash pops on in the dash. And only seems to happen when we go to get the papers, go figure.

YouReallyThinkSo --- 10 years ago -

They might get rid of the stickers but I'm sure they will still require every vehicle to be registered.

OhHeyItsHer --- 10 years ago -

Nope, you still need them for Pendleton as well as any other MC base. Navy/Army/Air Force stationed on CPen need them still regardless.

CivMP --- 10 years ago -

I have had several compentent sources tell me that Pass and ID told them they "didnt have to get a decal".

Sometimes the Powers that Be dont tell us things we need to know, such as the ongoing vehicle registration rumors,
Even though "we" (PMO) are supposed to enforce the mandatory registering of your vehicles on base.

CivMP --- 10 years ago -

My "guess" is that everyone will still be required to register their vehicles at Pass and Id, but decals will not be issued (AFTER the new systems are up and running).

carlyrod --- 10 years ago -

What new system is that CivMP?

CivMP --- 10 years ago -

All those fancy gizmos at the gates.. scanners, biometrics, gate arms, ect

Clinical Depression --- 10 years ago -

Cause technology never failed at any point in time? Are there going to be people there to troubleshoot? lol.

Leaving the SD airport parking lot the arm failed two cars ahead, no one would come to the assistance of the guy having problems and we were charged into the next time slot because of this. Granted, this is a military base and errors will have a better response time, but what if someone who comes onto base doesn't have the credentials and there are like 10 cars behind that person. How are you going to troubleshoot getting that person out of line and turned around if you expect the machines to do all the work. And if you're still going to have the labor force there then why can't they authenticate like they have been?

I don't know how you're going to forcibly institute bio-metric identification among civilians. It can be forced upon service-members because the government owns them, they can force whatever they want upon them. You can shake my hand to get my prints if you really want them, but I don't believe in a database filled with bio-metrics at the disposal of the government.

CivMP --- 10 years ago -

There will still be Officers at the gates.

Supposedly, the CUSTOMER swiping his/her own id card is faster than the MP/CP scanning it.

They are already doing the biometrics... you dont get a new ID card without putting your prints into the "system".

GardenWitch --- 10 years ago -

I just got a new ID, I wasn't printed. Plus we had to get stickers for the cars.

Maleficent --- 10 years ago -

I just got a new ID too. I've never been printed.

CivMP --- 10 years ago -

I just got a new ID card and I got printed. (again)...

Champ --- 10 years ago -

cacc card? or regular dependent ID? this might be the difference.

GardenWitch --- 10 years ago -

Dependents ID. Dh has been printed for his cacc card.

So if dependents prints aren't in the system, and our cards don't have the magnetic strip like a cacc, what card will we supposedly be swiping to get on base?

Champ --- 10 years ago -

Don't we have a barcode? I have a friend who her base scans ids, and they took her id because it wasn't logged right in their new system. It was a "big" ordeal (how big of deal it should have been is beyond me. I didn't ask questions, just skimmed over a fb post about it.)

CivMP --- 10 years ago -

All the ID's have a barcode... that is what the sentrys are supposed to be scanning... most of them scan.

To ease the process, hold the ID by the edges when handing it to the sentry with your picture facing him/her so we know it's you, then they should flip it scan it and hand it back.. about a 2 second process...

Most of us will also say the same thing about 10,000 times a day... like "how is your day", "staying out of trouble", "good morning/afternoon/evening"...... we dont expect a conversation, because as soon as i hand your ID back just say bye and drive away. (except between 10pm and 5am - you have to talk to us to make sure you aint drunk)
