Clinical Depression --- 13 years ago -

I hate when people on motorcycles do that in general. It's like we hear you already why the need to make even more noise. Or when motorcycles zig zag in their lane like their hot dung--I told my husband today when I saw it that I would laugh if they were doing that and wiped out.

I wouldn't laugh because it could really hurt them but I do get annoyed when they do that too.

i dont like the fact that they do not pay attention to the other drivers that are on the road. or the fac that at a stop light they zoom by to ge a head of other drivers.....why cant they wait like everyone like everyone else does. it drives me nuts. i think they need to go by the same ruleslike other drivers do

Lane splitting is actually legal in California so they are allowed to do that.

I hate lane splitting. I have no idea why its even legal. The worse is when your on the freeway and a motorcycle splits the lane. Ugghh its so stupid. Motorcyclists always say share the road and watch out for them but then they do stupid stuff on there bike. Lane splitting is illegal in a lot of states but not here. Crazy

What made me infuriated is when my husband did this, there were quite a few times that cars would pull into the middle to stop him. Which could cause a "nice" accident. I could friggin kill some people.

I don't care. They still need to watch out for the other drivers. What if someone opened a door at that time to dump a cup. I have done that cause the window didn't work. Or the driver of the car is smoking???? What then?!?!?!?

accountnickname --- 13 years ago -

I didn't say I thought it was safe, I only posted that because you said they needed to follow the same rules as other drivers. As a licensed driver in a different state I went years thinking they were breaking the law and it ticked me off because it felt like they were being so unsafe breaking the law. Once I realized they were allowed to do it I felt bad which is why I shared. I figured others did not know it was legal in California as well. I believe it is the only state that it is legal.

bigmamaperry --- 13 years ago -

I understand that but it is still unsafe to do that cause anything could go wrong. What they lost control doing that and hit a car

puppylove --- 13 years ago -

They go to the front at stop lights because it's safer for them. If they stay in between two cars and there is an accident they will be sandwiched in the middle.
As for splitting lanes on the freeway thats just stupid for them to do.

Alisa --- 13 years ago -

Even if lane splitting is legal in California it is no longer legal on base. I grew up with a father who rides, so I am overly watchful of riders, but MOST of the riders on base drive very irresponsible.

bigmamaperry --- 13 years ago -

That is where it s really bad is here on base and out in town on the highway

~GurlHARLEYrideR~ --- 13 years ago -

Wow. This is an interesting topic lol. I know a lot of you are infuriated by motorcycle riders, but the fact is you will never understand until you ride yourself. I hated lane sharing, until i became a rider. I almost got hit by NOT doing it on multiple occasions. And it is legal on base as long as you are not on the naval weapons base, and the line is not solid. It's a whole new perspective on road sharing, cars, lane splitting and more once you hop on a bike to ride yourself. And I don't mean riding with someone, I mean riding on your own.

GardenWitch --- 13 years ago -

I hate that lane sharing with a passion. I drive a good size pick-up, they get in my blind spot in the center of their lane it's hard enough to see them. Right next to me? Impossible.

There are limits on what they are allowed to do, I just don't think most of them bother to read the rules!

chelleydi77 --- 13 years ago -

I agree that in most instances it is safer, as long as you are doing it properly (unlike a lot of riders that zip through the cars). I'm not sure when it's supposed to start but it will be illegal on base in the very near future. Right now the MP's can issue warning tickets to inform riders of the upcoming changes

YouReallyThinkSo --- 13 years ago -

but the fact is you will never understand until you ride yourself.
Thats not the point, the point is half the time as drivers we cant see you when you are cutting a lane or if you have a loud bike you come up super fast splitting a lane and scare the crap out of us which could easily cause a accident. On this base and the freeway around us I have almost taken out a couple of bikes because I have a SUV and my blind spot is pretty significant compared to a car and trying to get over its hard to see motorcycles. Most states this is illegal. I cant wait for it to be illegal on base. Safer for everyone involved.

Alisa --- 13 years ago -

"And it is legal on base as long as you are not on the naval weapons base, and the line is not solid "

You might want to go back and check because I was of the understanding that the base order now states that it is illegal to lane splitting.

MorrigansMaiden --- 13 years ago -

Last I checked, lane sharing is only legal up to 25 mph in CA. I have lived here my whole life. Also, I have friends who ride, but they are responsible about it. I understand the rush that comes from the freedom of riding a bike. HOWEVER that is absolutely no excuse for putting others at risk because you want to do reckless things. I have seen people pop wheelies on the fricken 76 and I wanted to smack them in the face. Not only is that illegal, but it puts others at risk. it almost makes me wish they would high side or something, because they are literally asking for it. It truly infuriates me.

My husband worked with a douchebag Marine who rode. Not only was he riding on base with a suspended bike license for being a reckless rider, but he would pull stunts on the open road too all the time. He has gotten numerous tickets and even arrested once for attempting to outrun four cop cars on the freeway. Once, I was driving my husband's car and this Marine was on his bike and happened to see us on the road. He thought it would be hilarious if he rode right up next to our car and hit our car window with his fist as he rode by. yeah. I chewed his ass out so hard.

Another time, the first time I met him, he came to our apartment, and pulled his bike up literally onto our doorstep and revved the engine as loud as he could. Our neighbor rides a harley, and he came over and almost punched him in the face. I opened up a can of firebreathing hate bitch on his butt too lol. It was a wonderful first impression he gave me. And please don't think I am an uptight person, this guy is just an idiot and an ass hole. He treats my husband like crap also. I mean, the harley guy in our building is so respectful, I never hear him leaving in the mornings, he doesn't feel he has to revv his engine super loud, and he is just really nice about it. So I know it's possible lol.

Anyway, I can truly relate to the anger and frustration ppl are describing on here.

Ugh! I'm so glad motorcyclists here don't just irritate me. I'm from Michigan so I knew nothing about lane splitting. It's very annoying. I get annoyed the most when they come tearing up a lane to be in front of traffic and then go 30 mph. Grrrrrrr!!!!!

GardenWitch --- 13 years ago -

Only 25 mph? Wow, we had two touring motor bikes pass us on I-5 by splitting the HOV lane!! They ran the Solid Double yellow lines at 70+ mph!!!!!

Dh honked and they looked at him like die!
