What are you getting your mom or MIL?

e will actually be going to my MILs the weekend of, so I suppose we need a bit more than the card my husband picked up for her, and he's being no help. I'm not super close to my Mom, so I don't ever do much for her. Probably just flowers and chocolate covered strawberries this year. I can't figure out a good gift.

Barbie --- 11 years ago -

I had my kids make a colorful sand painting for her. We pretty much scattered globs of a mixture of (a little bit) of glue and different colors of paint on a canvas, then I dumped sand on top and the kids mixed it in with the paint mixture. After it was all mixed in we added a few sea shells and a ton of glitter. It seems like a huge pile of mess but it actually turned out really cute. My Mom lives on the beach and loves beach stuff so I think she'll like it.
As for my MIL she said if it doesn't shine then it didn't cost that much which would make it crap so she'll just be getting a "shinny" card....

I chose a new piece of Portmeirion for my mom since she collects it. For MIL I'm thinking of getting her a die cut set for her cricut since she likes making things with them.

FixDaPix --- 11 years ago -

I sell Mary Kay, so I sent my Mother in Law the Rosemary Mint Pedicure set (It's discontinued, so rare!) and my Mother the Peach Satin Hands Set. I made both a handmade fancy card and voila! Done :)

I sent my mom the Mother's Day Scentsy warmer.

Wiscogirl --- 11 years ago -

My mom will be visiting so I'm taking her for a spa day and found a book at hallmark about moms that you fill in with personal memories, she loves that stuff.

buying my mom a Diamond Candle and taking her out to do whatever she wants (celebrating her 50th birthday at the same time). For my MIL, we'll be sending flowers or an edible arrangement and a phone call.

After 21 years of marriage, I discovered a new way of keeping alive the spark of love.

A little while ago I started to go out with another woman. It was really my wife’s idea.

“I know that you love her.”

The other woman that my wife wanted me to visit was my mother, who has been a widow for 19 years, but the demands of my work and my three children had made it possible to visit her only occasionally.

That night I called to invite her to go out for dinner and a movie.

What’s wrong, are you well,” she asked? My mother is the type of woman who suspects that a late night call or a surprise invitation is a sign of bad news.

I thought that it would be pleasant to pass some time with you,” I responded.

“Just the two of us.” She thought about it for a moment, then said, “ I would like that very much.”

That Friday after work, as I drove over to pick her up I was a bit nervous. When I arrived at her house, I noticed that she, too, seemed to be nervous about our date. She waited in the door with her coat on. She had curled her hair and was wearing the dress that she had worn to celebrate her last wedding anniversary. She smiled from a face that was as radiant as an angel’s.

“I told my friends that I was going to go out with my son, and they were impressed,” she said, as she got in the car. “They can’t wait to hear about our meeting”.

We went to a restaurant that, although not elegant, was very nice and cozy. My mother took my arm as if I she were the First Lady.

After we sat down, I had to read the menu. Her eyes could only read large print. Half way through the entrees, I lifted my eyes and saw Mom sitting there staring at me. A nostalgic smile was on her lips.

“It was I who used to read the menu when you were small,” she said.

Then it’s time that you relax and let me return the favor,” I responded.

During the dinner we had an agreeable conversation-nothing extraordinary- but catching up on recent events of each other’s life. We talked so much we missed the movie. As we arrived at her house later, “she said, “Ill go out with you again, but only if you let me invite you”.

I agreed.

How was your dinner date?” asked my wife when I got home.

“Very nice. Much more than I could have imagined,” I answered.

A few days later my mother died of a massive heart attack. It happened so suddenly that I didn’t have time to do anything for her. Some time later I received an envelope with a copy of a restaurant receipt from the same place mother and I had dined. An attached note said: “I paid this bill in advance. I was almost sure that I couldn’t be there but, never the less,

I paid for two plates, one for you and the other for your wife. You will never know what that night meant for me. I love you.”

At that moment I understood the importance of saying, in time: “I Love You” and to give our loved ones the time that they deserve. Nothing in life is more important than your family. Give them the time they deserve, because these things cannot be put off ‘till “some other time”.

SoCalSaving --- 11 years ago -

I also just bought my mom $80.00 worth of flowers from FTD for $40.00 through Groupon!

Momma2Fur --- 11 years ago -

She lives with me. I wish I could get her an apartment. :/ Actually, I don't know. Maybe a gift card to get her nails done?

SoCalSaving--I was going to do this for my MIL but I wasn't sure how it worked?? Do I get to pick the flowers I want to send?? or how does it work??

You buy the voucher and you'll get the gift code valued at $80 to spend on whatever you want to.

Sorry I didn't see this sooner! It's two vouchers, each one is for $40.00 but you only pay $20.00. It's one voucher per order so I ordered her two flower arrangements to get to her one two different days. I thought it would be cute to get her one from me and my husband and one from the babies. You can do both arrangements for the same day or however you like.

Dtigerlily4ever --- 11 years ago -

Ok awesome!!!! Thanks!!!

I wish I would have realized that and sherri berries are "related"(if I'm not confusing flower services). I did a 2 day thing for my mom, flowers one day, chocolate covered strawberries the next day, and since my mom is my mom I didn't have to pay to send her them on Mother's Day. I'm doing it during ther week to her work.

I think MIL we decided to go to world market and just pick out some wine and other random specialty items, and make a gift basket. Hope she likes it because I found out my husband actually asked her to watch the girls all day Saturday and over night so he could take me out.

I love being crafty and making sentimental things. I made my mom a memory book of my son. She lived with me while my husband was deployed so it has everything her and my son experienced together and special little moments. Hopefully she likes it!

gbob --- 11 years ago -

bellarina, that is cool! I do things like that too. My daughter is deployed and I made her a dvd with pics/music. I also made a sign and had many random people hold it (it said happy mother's day) and added those pics as well. I think it turned out great!

I'm trying them out this year because Pro Flowers messed up pretty bad last year. If there is a problem with the freshness of the flowers or any complaints, they will send a new arrangement out for you. I had to do this three times last year with Pro Flowers so I thought I would give them a try. Their arrangements are beautiful and some of them can even be hand delivered so you know they will get there beautiful and fresh!
