Wouldnt you like to know --- 13 years ago -

I am looking into getting a English bulldog puppy. Does anyone have any avaliable or can reccomend where I can find one? Thank you so much for you help.

EastCoastChik --- 13 years ago -

Ebay classifieds. Typically they run 1500 plus. Dnt buy from a pet shop buy from a breeder bc they can have alot of health issues. When you buy from a breeder you have a health guarentee make sure you look in the contract. Also you know the pups family history. :-)

Do NOT buy from the guy in Fallbrook. Won't say anymore but do your research on the breeder.

MammaMia --- 13 years ago -

Definitely research both the breed and the breeder. Also do not go with an out of state breeder unless you are driving there to pick up the dog. Shipping dogs is dangerous-- even more so for bulldogs, boxers, pugs etc... because of their smooshed faces and breathing issues. Here is an article that will help you to identify a reputable breeder.

We bought our bully from Todd (bigbulldogs.com) and had an awesome experience with him. He knows his stuff about bullies. He is also under the bbb. I met quite a few people who bought from him and all had nothing but good to say about him. Check him out and you can make an appt to see his puppies. Best of luck to you.

For whatever reason, bulldogs if all kinds gave the nastiest farts! Haha but very sweet dogs just make sure you can afford their health issues as they age. :-) abd do research a good breeder. There are also some great rescues if you look on petfinder :-)

I hope that things are different, but here is one of the reasons to not buy from the Fallbrook guy:

Lots of articles on the same thing, but who knows.. maybe he changed.

I know it's far but this breeder is in Flagstaff and has bred the famous "Meaty", Rob Drydek's(sp) dog and I was going to buy one from there until my husband and I decided on an animal rescue.

Thread-Actually that breeder did not breed Meaty. He got Meaty from a puppy mill in Europe and gave him away to MTV for free.

Well then... I stand corrected... but I was going to buy one from there.

You can look up breeders on akc.org and ukc.com. Not akc approved dog breeders are going to be good ones but that's a place to start.

shizzlemydizzle --- 13 years ago -

I second doing your research on bullies.

They are HIGH maintenance pups. They require LOTS of care and are susceptible to a number of infections.

They're known for respiratory issues, skin problems, allergies and bone & joint issues.

Also, the average lifespan of a bully is only about 8 yrs.

The pet store in the devil dog mall often has them, you could also ask when they are getting one. Expensive but I'm sure they are a pretty expensive breed anywhere.

Thank you all for the information. I really appreciate it.

Oh please don't get a pet store dog.

Go with a reputable breeder if you must, one with parents on site, make you sign contracts to include you must return the dog if you decide you no longer want it later on, requires that all their "pet quality" dogs be spayed/neutered etc.

An even better option would be a rescue!

Is this not the same store where a lot of the puppies died within a few weeks of purchase?

MammaMia --- 13 years ago -

Oh please don't get a pet store dog.

This. They are very often from puppymills (google it if you don't know what that is) pet store puppies are way over priced for the quality of dog you are getting. Do your research.

You should watch the HBO documentary "Madonna of the Mills" so insightful with regards to the puppy mills.
