It is about the leader of the LRA who has terrorized people in Africa for many years. They steal children from their families, kill the families (sometimes making the kids do it themselves) and then force the boys to be child soldiers and the girls to be sex slaves. They kill, rape, maim and do whatever they want. The leader--Joseph Kony--was the first person convicted of war crimes in more recent years but has still escaped capture. Through years of work The invisible Children organization finally got the US to send some military advisors to Africa to help train the Uganda military so they can arrest Kony, but the worry is that our govt will pull them back when people stop caring. So they have started this movement to spread awareness so everyone knows what is going on and who Kony is in hopes that he will be captured by the end of the year.
This has been going on for a long time, before Kony was even born. It's been a long time problem in Africa. It's sad yes but capturing one man will not stop it. The next person will take his place just like the person before him.
The only way it will stop is if the people of Africa start to stand up for themselves and take the control away. We will not always be there to take out whoever takes over.
So, if people in Africa could stand up and take control away. I suppose this opinion would work the same with the ignorant in America?
I didn't realize it could be that easy.
*clap clap* Agreed. How do you stand up to people with machine guns held to your head? If you don't care about it, are tired of hearing about it, then please, by all means go about your merry way. What IC is doing is bringing awareness, I would say they have accomplished that.
It's not about having them stand up for themselves. It's about teaching them that the world can change and that they can have a future. Would you be able to stand up alone when all others have died before you? Would you still stand up and say something with very little behind you for support? I think not. Yes, they will need to stand on their own but they need the support we can offer to fight back. Imagine it like this: The Ugandans are ants. The rebels are a wave. Who will win? With the U.S. support, the Ugandans are levies.
^^ cool, but the problem over there IS NOT a scam. This isn't one of those commercials with the crying children saying please send money. This is for people who don't know about the issue to raise a voice and say we care. Unlike you apparently, since all you can say is "you're sick of hearing about this." Well, then don't read what people who DO care have to say ad it will save you the headache.
to add on, if you watch the video, it CLEARLY states that Kony has spread to other parts of Africa. He started all of this IN Uganda, hence the focus on Uganda. Watch the video, it shows the Uganda people in schools, shows them in a better place than before. If you don't want to donate to IC, please don't! But this is a problem that needs to be addressed.

^ THANK YOU! I'm getting the feeling people "watch" the video but don't even listen to anything its saying until they hear the world "money", and then feel the need to bash it. Watch the whole video and if you actualy listen there way more than just the part you tuned in on.
I wouldn't ever send money without doing the research but I didn't send money. I did the least that was asked of me; I shared the video and signed the petition.
I did what I think is right and spread the word of what is going on in. To turn a blind eye to this is worse than you' imagine. These people can't help themselves, they can't stand up and fight so we must teach them how and we must support them. That doesn't mean money, it means everyone knowing. It's like a burglar. Will he try to rob your house knowing you're in it and fully prepared to fight? a hell of a lot less of a chance than if you're unprepared, scared, and have nothing.
Do your research people. This goes far beyond Kony. There are at least 7 other known warlords doing the exact same thing at the present time. If you look at the overall movement of Kona 2012, it is indeed a scam. They have collected over 13 million dollars in donations over the past few years and only Approx 30% has gone to the cause. While what is happening there is despicable, the same things are happening right on our border in Mexico. Why not the huge outcry and flooding of support there? Why you ask? Because it wouldn't produce the revenue that the current movement in Africa is producing. No other reason.
The point I keep seeing made over and over is the money issue. Fine, its a scam. Don't send money. I didn't send money just as Charlie said she didn't. We have both said this isn just about raisin money, this is about becomming aware of the problem. Yes there are problems all over the freaking world, we know. Yes there are problems here in america, we know. But what is happening to these children is horrific. I'm not about to go to Mexico to make a video about what is going on over there, but who knows, maybe someone will. And when that happens a video will be spread around about that. Nobody here is telling you to send money, because I wuldnt either. Its just showing people, who may not know, what is happening. Whether it starts or end with Kony who cares, atleast the word is out there everywhere now.
It's not just about the money. There are greater things at stake here. They have oil and we will probably weasel our way in there and just have some other type of war on our hands. Besides we can't afford to police the world.
Reality just cause you didnt donate doesnt mean that someone who seen your post didnt donate. It wouldnt be smart of them to donate without researching but whos to say they thought you did your research before posting. By reposting it you are contributing to them.
if those people want to make a difference they should get up off there asses and join the military they want to change it and have the military step in so why dont they join
