I just delivered at the naval hospital on Feb 28th. I have been with them the whole pregnancy and say that with it being my first baby I have nothing but good things to say! I loved my experience there! Everyone was so nice and attentive and helping. The delivery was an induction because of me having gestational diabetes so I had our baby girl on her due date with no complications. I went in for my induction on 2-28-12 at 9am and had her at 537pm. I couldnt have asked for a better experience.
I really wanted to post this to let everyone know that I had an awesome experience! I know I have seen soooo many people on here bad mouth the hospital....those people are just listening to other people and no one had an experiences there probably. The birthing room was huge and private and the post room was private and huge As well! I hope this eases the minds of anyone looking into this hospital and a great experience!

DramaLlamasMomma --- 13 years ago -

I want to congratulate you on a healthy baby and I'm glad you had a great experience there.

However, I am not one of those people "listening to other people". I personally had a horrible experience at the NH and I will probably never have a baby again because of it. But i'm glad yours was great!

YouReallyThinkSo --- 13 years ago -

You are lucky you had a good experience, mine was horrible. My doc was a idiot but thankfully I had a strong boy and he pulled through all the complications perfectly. If the doctor had listened to the nurse in the first place our little guy wouldn't of had the problems he did. I avoid that place at all cost. And our recovery room was about the size of our bathroom but that's because they had a busy night.

Congrates!! I just had my second son there on the 11th. I am so glad you had a great experience!! Unfortunately I didnt :( I had my first and was in a civilian hospital and it was great. I had a great birth but afterwards not so much. at about 4 in the morning i asked the nurses if they could possibly take the baby for an hour or 2 so i could sleep. I have a problem sleeping except for at my house. They said no. So i had no sleep until during the day then they came in every time i fell asleep. if we have another baby in a few years then I am def going back to a civilian hospital.

I agree
I loved the NH! Fallbrook on the other hand every one says they loved and my experience was HORRIBLE! To the point where my son almost didn't make it all because a doctor went on lunch. I will never step foot in that place again no matter how many bs apologies they gave.

MommaNanny --- 13 years ago -

I delivered at the naval hospital a year ago. They day we left i decided to never have a baby there again. I loved my after care nurses but other than that it was horrible. They had me push for 5 hours. Knowing i wasnt progressing at all. By that point i was begging for a c-section. When they finally delivered him. He had an infection from being in my belly to long. They ran test after test. Making me think it was my fault my baby was sick. Until they finally told us the dr was at fault. He was in the nursery for two weeks. I kept asking them why he had a BAD rash and his poop was awful. They said it was normal. Two days after we leave he started to get blood in his stool. So we took him to a different er. He was allergic to milk protein in his formula. I dont like that place.

You too?! I delivered at 11 at night with my 2nd and my husband was not allowed to stay with me because of our oldest son and not having a babysitter. I was up all day, gave birth, and then stayed up all night because they insisted he needed to be in my room. Wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't just given birth but I was exhausted!

EEs Mommy --- 13 years ago -

Congratulations on your new bundle of joy!

I've had good experiences with both of my kids deliveries at NH. I had my baby girl on Feb. 2nd. The only difference from my first delivery is the size of the room I had in the Maternal Infant Unit. All the big rooms were taken so they had me in one of the four smaller rooms in the unit. It was better than doubling up with another person because that's what ended up happening to the mothers that delivered after I got my room. Luckily I was only there for one night, so it didn't really bother me or my dh.

gurlplz --- 13 years ago -

I was in the hospital recently and had to share a room with a young woman that has a serious health issue it was horrible to be able to hear such personal medical information and have my medical infor heard too. She was very nice and we had good conversation though.

MyLuckyStars88 --- 13 years ago -

Well I have had not such good ecperiences in the NH(s). Before we moved here we were in 29 Palms and I was going to have my daughter there. She is (9) months now.My son Kaiden I had at a civi Hospital in AZ and was an amazing time!!! I loved it! Well long story short. Everything seemed to be going great. At my 20 week apt and ultra sound (march 15th) was the worst day of my life and my husbands. During ultrasound the tech wasnt saying anything to me...which I thought was odd considering when I was preg with my son, they would ask about my job, if i liked my school ect, just to have a convo. The ultrasound was VERY uncomfortable!! Then she told me that I needed to go and see my OB ASAP, so we headed down the my OB and got into the room and my OB brought someone in the room with her. She went on to telling me that my baby girls heart rate was too slow and something was wrong and they couldnt fix it. Taylee's heeart rate was 28 BPM. There was nothing they could do!! (not even transfer me) Then she went on to telling me that the guy she brought in was to talk with me more and she left the room basically in tears. The surgeon looked at Kurtis and I and said that I NEEDED to deliver and they would let her die on my chest. There was nothign they could do for the baby or I.

I went home and held my son. I didnt want to "give up" on her. She was kicking away just as much as before. I could feel her and didnt want to give up!! I called my mom and told her what was going on. She and myhole family rushed down to 29 Palms and told me about this hospital in AZ called Good Samaritin, they specialize in High Rish pregnancys. I decided to go (didnt take much convincing) HUbby had to stay back until they would approve his emergency leave since the hospital didnt transfer me, he had to talk to many people (made it very hard on us). When he was on the phone with a LT at the NH she told him "Why do you want to waste your time and money in trying to safe this baby when we KNOW what the outcome will be?" He said, anything is possiable and money dont matter.

So i got to the hospital in AZ (counting each kick or movement)They ran a bunch of tests and exam me. They docs all looked so sad. They said that it didnt look good or the outcome didnt look good BUT they were gonna try to save this babies life!!! Thats all I wanted to hear, is that someone would HELP me fight for my daughters life. She wasnt ready to give up and neither was I. For the remainder of my pregnancy, my son and I had to stay in AZ and away fom my husband (he had to go back to work). I was on steriods and a bunch of crazy drugs to try to get her heart rate up through me and it was working. The highest it got during my pregnancy was 57 BPM. At 33 weeks I had my baby girl (4 pounds 3oz), yes she was stuck in the hostpital until she was big enough to be paced.

My Taylee Hope is now 9 months old, rolling over, eating, laughing, smiling and with each smile i see, makes me so proud that I didnt listen to NH. 2 1/2 months after she was born and a week after her heart surgery, she was able to go home. Kaiden, Taylee and I were able to finally go home and be a family and be with Kurtis (husband). Through all the trouble and everything we had to go through, being apart as a family, has made a huge impact on our lives!

When we went home, we had to pass the NH before getting to our house, it made me sick to think I could have listened to the doctors and not have my baby girl, but I DO and I am glad that I went through everything I DID to bring my baby here nd let her have a chance in living life.

I have NOT had good exp at the NH(s). If it's serious, we go else where.

I am very glad to hear you had a good one though!! LUCKY!!

My dr was the most horrible Dr i have ever had in my life. It wasnt my dr. She was so mean, she wouldn't check me when i asked, I KNEW it was time to push. She said shes not checking for another 1.5 hours my mom went out and threw a fit. Sure enough she checked me and i was a FULL 10. As i was pushing she was supposed to move her finger around helping me basically she didn't touch me. Didn't help me count NOTHING she got ICEd for sure. I hated my experience there. THUS the reason my husband and i are done and he got snipped i won't deal with that nightmare again. Glad you had a good time though :)

You had a bad experience because a busy staff didnt stop and take the time to watch your kid for you?

Taminator --- 13 years ago -

Personally I think I would of had a bad experience at any hospital...labor hurts and stitches are worse ;) No hospital can change that lol

I completely agree^^^, that's what I was thinking when I read that from the two ladies who had a bad experience because the nurses didn't babysit for them... weird

Allison --- 13 years ago -

my first i had at a civilian hospital and they told me straight up "we don't put newborns into the nursery for the first 24 hours." i had him at 4am, so at 4am the next night they asked if i wanted him to go into the nursery for 2 hours. They had time limits on how much time they allowed each kid in there.

kris --- 13 years ago -

I had good experiences with both of my kids at naval hospitals I had my son at balboa and everyone was great! The nurses even let us use the lounged so we could eat and visit with our friends. Then I had my daughter at nhcp and had no problems there either. I delivered at 5:15pm and was discharged the next morning I just had to wait until my daughter was 24 hrs so she could bet discharged. It was about 7:30pm by the time all her labs came back and they had told us we could wait till morning if we wanted but we just wanted to go home so we could be with our son too. I would have no problem going to the nh again.

LOL they have a nursery just for this reason with people who are paid to work in there. They were not busy that night, they just didn't want to do it and I was also bleeding very badly from having such a big boy. For months after having him I couldn't stand up without bleeding all over myself. So thanks for those who think it was stupid of me to want relief for just a little while LMAO.

Well the nursery that the naval hospital has is a sick babies nursery! They do not have a well baby nursery. I didn't have any problem with her being in the room with us because I am breastfeeding and she needed to stay close. She ended up being jaundiced as well..which was probably the only bad thing that we had to stay an extra day and she was stuck under those lights for 16hrs with a lil blindfold on. She was under the lights for 2 hours at a time with 30 mins off to eat and bond with us..but all she wanted to do in the 30 mins was sleep on me so then they tried to keep us for another day for loss of weight. But the lactation nurse helped me pump her extra breast milk to have her gain weight. But I would have rather that happened while I was still there because they let us stay in the same room and take care of her. :-)

Brayden's Mommy, you are mistaken. My husband worked on the postpartum floor in the NH for 2 years and they definitely do NOT have people paid just to watch your newborn. The only workers up there are the nurses,LVNs, CNAs and Corpsmen who are taking your vitals. Where on earth are you getting your info from? While I understand wanting relief, you can't expect them to be able to watch your baby for you when they have a bunch of patients in their charge. What if every mom expected that?

....Was it Dr Elmore?

Aistillnokea --- 13 years ago -

These are the reasons I'm scared to give birth in any military facility.... I refuse. I had both my sons at a civilian hospital and my doc was the best!!!! they were able to take my babies to the nursery for the night so I could sleep but came back first thing in the morning so I could try bf'ing then again. They were also advocates for me when it looked like I was overwhelmed and needed rest, they would ask me and then talk to my visitors or whatever I needed.

HereAgain --- 13 years ago -

My experiences at the NH have been awesome. Both doctors and nurses were great with us.
I guess I'm the only one that liked the fact that my babies stayed with me the whole time.

DocsWife --- 13 years ago -

I wish my babies could have stayed with me. They had to be in the special care nursery, which means I was walking my post c-section butt down to the SCN 12 hours post-op to be with them. My husband and I stayed down there pretty much constantly, unless they had to kick us out for something. I wish I could have kept them in the room with me.

When you go in wit a positive attitude and don't listen to.others you will have a good experience. If you go in with a had attitude listening to what others say and expect he worse your going to have a bad experience.

MommaNanny --- 13 years ago -

Docswife we did the same. I had a c-section and they took my little man to the nursery a few hours later.

Sorry, but I don't think my attitude had anything to do with a military hospital sending me home with a med (while pregnant) after I had a severe allergic reaction to it right there in the ER. That is fairly insulting to say to people who have experienced true medical errors.

And my babies have always roomed in with me, rooming-in is considered ideal nowadays and many hospitals are moving towards eliminating well baby nurseries if they have not already.
