Here is our situation.. We faxed over all our paper work for base housing mid October and 4 days later we were contacted by a Lincoln coordinator. We was told everything was good to go and that we will not have any issues with our move in November, it would be a door-to-door move and that we were number 3 on the list. I called today to ask a few questions and was told differently. They are now saying that I have a 3-4 month wait. I have no clue on what is going on. My friend who lives on base mention to me that they favor more the ones who currently live off base and are trying to get on base. She has had 3 friends who have done this and have been moved on base very quickly. Any advice? I don't known what to do. This will be my 2nd time to live on a base we has always lived off base with our other duty stations.

Excuse the mis-spelling.

Wait you dont have much other choice good luck lady

TexasMommy --- 13 years ago -

What housing are you wanting to get into? Maybe try looking into another district to get into something sooner?

shesfromthevalley --- 13 years ago -

What housing are you in now and where are you trying to move?

If they have openings then I can see you getting in now. But if it's an area that has a wait, there's really nothing you can do. Since we now rate a three bedroom, we're moving from santa margarita to WM2and i choose that specific housing because i saw it didn't have a wait list.

laneys mommy --- 13 years ago -

I actually have experienced the opposite. When my husband and I got married we applied for base housing and it was a year wait. (this was a few years ago) We PCS'd to Maryland and then PCS'd back here. This time we got a door to door move into a new home.

Probably depends on the housing area and who else is PCSing or has priorty issues. Do your friends know people moving straight into the area you want or is it a different area? Makes a huge difference.

Trace --- 13 years ago -

When we moved here we were told we were like 15 on the list. The day my husband checked in we got a house (south mesa).

Vanbam --- 13 years ago -

i got our house when we were like #12 on the list. i called asked what number i was and a few days latter they told me we got a house.

you just have to wait it out.

HomeIsWhereTheMCSendsUs --- 13 years ago -

Are you moving from one community to another within base? Because if so, families PCSing do take priority.

We are not there yet, but we were told to call in a few weeks and that they would hold a house for us for up to 30 days in advance before we even get there.

Quin1s --- 13 years ago -

We live in 29Palms. We received orders to CP we are due to report in November.I did request South Mesa II. Thank you all for your inputs. Trace,VanBam and HomeIsWhereTheMCSendsUs thank you as well that pulled some weight off. We discussed our other options so we should be good now. :0)

shesfromthevalley --- 13 years ago -

We live in 29Palms.

I know someone who just moved from 29 palms and I think they stayed in a hotel for a week while they waited for their house. Hopefully you guys don't have too long of a wait!

blah blah --- 13 years ago -

I am so lucky. When I moved in with my husband in NC he had already gotten us an apartment. So when he got orders to Miramar I had no idea their was a waiting list for housing.

The day my husband and I got to San Diego we went to housing office on 32nd st. And looked at 2 places and got our house the next day.

Texicano --- 13 years ago -

oh yeah, you're screwed.

4 days later we were contacted by a Lincoln coordinator.

You're lucky ;). I sent my paper work in on Aug 30 and finally had someone help me last week-- best customer service by the way!--. I had called 3 times before to check on our application *hubs is deployed* and was told " no ones looked at it yet", "someone will call you", and "someone will call you if anythings wrong." I finally called for a 4th time and explain central housing had not called me etc..and what do you know they had information wrong lol. Got that fixed lick-itty split and as of yesterday **I'm east coast time ;)** we have a house/addy! I do know that they have a lot of housing in Santa Margartia open at the moment...

I'm the one ShesFromTheValley is talking about---I got here from 29 palms and was told we were #5 on the list the day we got here. My hubby saved his PTAD for the move and just drove to work from the hotel right off base---the day we got here, my hubby went to check in and when he stopped by the housing office they said we'd have a house in 11 days. They pay for a hotel for you for up to 10 days, so we stayed at a local hotel that has a kitchenette for 10 days paid by the USMC and then paid for an extra day out-of-pocket and on day 12 we checked out and moved into our house!

Easy peasy! And they were telling me they had NO idea how long it would be.

My best suggestion for you is to call them every 3rd day and ask "where am I on the list?" and stay up to date on it AND get the low-down on someone who lives in the area where you want to move and get info from them to make sure that's where you want to live. I wanted a very quiet neighborhood with little/no partying and all that...so I'd have been miserable in Stuart Mesa, but my neighbor just moved here from SM and HATES it here because its "too quiet" and "nobody socializes" etc... So make sure you get the right neighborhood for YOU!

Quin1s --- 13 years ago -

Shesfromthevalley do you live on base? I hope not either thanks! Idaho Cowgirl that's good, everything worked out for you at the end. TexiCano I know LOL ... Target lady WOW! My friend lives in Santa Margarita and they are nice and nice neighborhood.

Quin1s --- 13 years ago -

LilShutterbug - Thank you for the information, you're right about seeing how the neighborhood is. I have two kids so I don't want to live in a neighbor that is always partying.More of a family oriented,if that exist.

LOL I like it that way. I really don't want neighbors coming over to my house all the time. :)

Shesfromthevalley do you live on base?

Yep, we live in Santa Margarita but we're moving to Wire Mountain 2 in like a week and a half. :)

*Target lady has a secret* --- 13 years ago -

Yep, we live in Santa Margarita

How do you like it? Pros and Cons lol..We have a house "ready" there at the moment..

Quin1s --- 13 years ago -

Has anyone ever been in this situation with a child in school?

LilShutterbug --- 13 years ago -

Quin1s---I live in O'Neill Heights. Its VERY VERY family oriented here. I LOVE my neighborhood. In the evenigns there are lots of walkers and kids playing in the yard all afternoon, but at about 8pm, the whole place quiets down and the kids all go to bed and you get a few people sitting on their patios/driveways with fire pits sipping a drink and chatting, but no real partying and no yelling! Its GREAT!

Quin1s --- 13 years ago -

That sounds very nice.

Ehh.....It goes back and forth. We have ALOT of dogs barking around us right now. There have been times when it was pretty quiet but we've had some loud neighbors. We once had neighbors who would throw loud parties and then one night I heard the husband arguing with the girl that lived across the street about how they had slept together and she still wanted him and he regretted it. They were interesting....

Up until recently, we typically liked it here. Recently we got new neighbors who are super loud and have a loud dog. They made it pretty miserable. It really just depends on what house/street you're in.

The other crappy part is the houses are really old so mice get in so easy. We caught about ten mice in our house within a couple months. It was AWFUL. Sometimes we get ants really bad too but that seems to be everywhere on base. Also our backyard looks out in an open field so we have the worry of snakes. Last summer we had a baby rattler in our backyard. UGH.

Pros....we have an ocean view and we get a really nice breeze up here. My friends lived in South Mesa 1 and there house would get really hot in the summer. We just leave our windows open in the summer and the breeze keeps in so cool. We're within walking distance of the pool and there's hardly anybody ever there.

YouReallyThinkSo --- 13 years ago -

We moved from 29 to CP. We did a door to door move. It was really easy. But we moved into Stuart Mesa. We even got to pick which house we wanted, they let us look at 10 different ones. Our son was, is in school we just transferred him.

HavingaBOY --- 13 years ago -

well my husband went to base housing yesterday, applied, and we move in oct 20-ish. and we currently live off base, so id say we had NO wait at all...
