They're both girls, ages 2 and 1. (The 1yr-old just started walking, btw.) I practically never have the TV on, and if I do it's Fox News, not the ADD cartoons. I know I have a hard time taking my focus off my housework to enjoy my girls, and it's diffacult to involve them both at the same time. (Like two chairs at the kitchen sink, means there's no room for mama. And of course they always want to do what the other is.) Moreover, housework and inside play I don't think burns off enough energy for them, but I go outside and just don't know what to do with myself. The park gets boring real fast. Back in the day I played a lot of sports, particularly soccer, so I do have an athletic bone in me, but I like to compete. Playing with my kids gets boring. What can I do? I need something that's not too demanding for their ages, is relatively convenient, and is something I could do nearly everyday and not want to pull my hair out.

christina --- 15 years ago -

When I take my kids to the park, I usually take a book and read while they play. They are 2 and 5 and play really well together, thankfully. I know what you mean I am good at doing coloring or playdoh with my kids but when it comes to play, playing with them I am bored. I do try to play with them, but I think they are just as happy having some independance at the park as I am having a few minutes to read a book or magazine.
Do you have a blow up pool? That will keep them happy for a while too.

I go outside and just don't know what to do with myself

Read a book while they play.

I used to close off the garage with gates and play tennis in ther alone. i didn't have anyone to play with and it sucked but at least I got off my butt.

Get them a playdate, they have fun and you can talk to the other mom.

something I could do nearly everyday and not want to pull my hair out.

Anything you do EVERYDAY is going to get boring. Schedule somthing different everyday.

Your suggestions are awesome. I've been having the same boredom problems or same routines that aren't working too well, as of late.

Spork Fight --- 15 years ago -

try places like childs play (in temecula) indoor playgrounds :) fun and moms tend to be a bit more approachable in those settings :) great way to meet someone to start a play date with... you can set out colored pencils and butcher paper for the to create masterpeices :)

All Abouts --- 15 years ago -

I like taking the kids to the yard, my babies are 10 months apart, so one is 2 1/2 and the other is 20 months. Also lay on the floor at their room to read while the play.
I do house work while they nap from 1030 to 1:30 ( everyday) and after all the kids go to bed at 800.
Also take them to the beach while everyone else is at school

Shary --- 15 years ago -

Convenience means that I don't have to load them up to get somewhere or be a a set time frame, so playdates and kid gyms/learning centers are kinda out -not something I'd be doing more than a couple times a month anyhow.
I do like reading, but I couldn't see myself getting through a page, much less a chapter, because they so often need assistance. Neither one of my kids can really get around the playground safely by themselves. Besides, I do want to be involved with them, like actively participating. Involving other kids is a nice idea, but it's not all that convenient given that most the kids on my street seem to be at daycare most the time (or their moms just hide inside w/ them all day) or are considerably older.

Back in jacksonville, we would have playdates every Monday and Thursday. I started to go when my son was a few weeks old. It was nice to get out and meet other moms and talk with them as well. Maybe we could set up a playdate for one day and see how it works.

All Abouts --- 15 years ago -

Since also the weather may get hotter soon, consider a baby pool, my babies love it.. I put a little tikes slide and the slide into the water, lots of fun, and I dont have to leave my front yard

Shary --- 15 years ago -

I do this already; they love it.
:)

I'm looking for something that will really get them moving and tired out. My 2yr-old will seriously run full-speed chasing me around that dining room table for 20+ minutes, and the 1yr-old tries to stumble her way into the action too.

What I'd really like also is to be outside.

Oh this makes me laugh. Believe me...the ADD cartoons are WAYYYYY better than FOX news. lmao

All Abouts --- 15 years ago -

My son loves Barney and Elmo.. he watches recorded shows everyday for 20/30 minutes while I get things ready for lunch , before nap time

Priv8_Hug-H8R_4Lifey --- 15 years ago -

Oh and for the kids.....get an empty box. Roll around on the floor with them playing with it. They will love it lol. They are so young, you only need to do something simple. No need to over stimulate them just to feel like your a particiapting mother. Kids find the simplest things fun.

My daughters favorites :) And Dora

What I meant to say, is that I don't set them up infront of the tv hardly ever. However, while I'm folding laundry or cleaning I sometime like to catch the news. Is it really that aweful? I don't think so. Geeze.

Best advice ever. They will be entertained for ages :)

I have a older couch on my family room, everyday the babies take all pillows out of and play jumping and build whatever with those, they love when they get caught( I pretend I dont see it)

lmao I know what you meant. You obviously didnt know what I meant lol. It is ok....some people will get the FOX news joke and others wont. You actually watch FOX news...so you are one of those that wont get it. It was a joke, so chill out. We get it, you watch the news, youre informed.

Spork Fight --- 15 years ago -

so let me get this straight... you dont want to go somewhere, dont want to take them to learning centers, and you want it to be convenient.... you have a one and a two year old- nothing about that is "convenient" you have to play with them to tire them out, and most of the time what a two year olds ability to do will be "boring"... deal. Kids are work. Its no longer about what you want- Its about what they need... Maybe its me PMSing but seriously.

lmfao i got it :P

Shary --- 15 years ago -

I don't think people are catching what I'm asking. I'm looking for something that will have them like totally out of breath, but also something that I won't get bored of after ten minutes. (I actually WANT to do it with them, not simply have them entertained.)

It's crossed my mind to try something like soccer just in our backyard, since that's right up my alley anyhow. Yet, I coached little 4yr-olds once, and it drove me nuts. (Guess I'm just more cut out to be a player than a coach.)

Oh, but "All Abouts" I love your idea, and for inside fun I will definitely go with it. Thanks!

lol! It's the simple things that make kids that age happy. For my daughters 2nd birthday, we bought her a big expensive playhouse from Toys R Us that came in a huge box. Man, I wish I had just got her the box! Her daddy cut it to look like it had a door and window, and she loved it (before her birthday) When she got the new playhouse and we had thrown the box out, she wondered where her beloved box had went. lol I could've saved a lot of money!

Lmao I got your joke Priv8 :)

I get what you're saying in this comment. I have no idea what the poster's lifestyle or situation is. For myself, personally, playdates aren't always an option. We have one vehicle and my man takes it to work with him and doesn't get off til late! I do get what you're saying, it's just not always so easy for all mothers, which sucks in the long run, at times. :/

All Abouts --- 15 years ago -

Go for walks in some simple trails, I have those back pack leashes and take the babies on walks , let then lead the way

They are two and 1 year old. There is not a whole lot they can do to get them out of breath lol. At least not that you wont get bored with. They are too young for anything that physical that requires skills. They just learned how to walk to petes sake. They cannot engage in organized sports. Seriously run around the living room with them to music. Chase them. Thats about it lol. You will get bored. Unless you have the intellect of a 2 year old too...anything you do with them will not be that "un-boring." it is called sacraficing fun time for your kids. Sometimes doing what they want to do is boring and annoying lol So you either do it...and deal. Or you dont..and just let them watch the cartoons lol. Believe me...nothing is going to entertain the hell out of you and wear them out at the same time.

All Abouts --- 15 years ago -

I dont do planned play dates, normally is just me and the kids, but with a little pool and yard toys.. or mud( my babies love the mud) they happy :)

All Abouts --- 15 years ago -

Do they take naps? and Go to bed on a set time.
Sometimes when babies are not on a set schedule , it seems that they never run out of energy, while those that have a regular schedule, tend to slow down when is time for bed or nap

Megan --- 15 years ago -

Elefun and Gatorgolf are games my son loves to play and he can be really active and they help him get worn out. We play tag. He has a game for the playstation that is kind of like a Dance Dance Revolution but its with shapes, colors, and letters, he loves it and you can hear him jumping around and laughing all the time with it. I cant remember the name of it for my life right now.

Shary --- 15 years ago -

"Believe me...nothing is going to entertain the hell out of you and wear them out at the same time."

Are you sure about this? I wasn't really thinking "organized" sports but maybe rather 'disorganized' sports or sport drills. (You know, like "Run to the line! Run back. Now kick the ball!" That kind of thing. Of course, I wouldn't really try to make anything serious of it.

Spork Fight --- 15 years ago -

i dont do play dates either- but he does have a few kids he plays with all the time at the pool, and he likes to play with the kids at the park, or the kids museums... i want to start him in a gymnastics class, as soon as i find one out here.. priv 8 worded it way better than i did :P aunt flo came to visit so im short tempered today :P
