Why are you saling BOTH your family dogs on PYS just because your moving? Seriously!!! Why even bother getting a dog if you dont plan on keeping it for the rest of its life?
I had the weirdest dream last night that my family was going on a vacation to the amazon and we were selling our dogs because they couldn't go. I woke up in a panic. I can't believe people actually do that with no feelings whatsoever, but it happens everyday.
What pisses me off even more is when someone moves and abandons their dog. I've got a dog I'm trying to find a home for right now that someone did that too. If you aren't going to take care of your animal and take them with you don't get them.
It just breaks my heart. Some dogs are NEVER the same after losing their original owners. Can you imagine what goes through their heads? I mean I know its not a humane, but I honestly think dogs show emotions and understand more than some give them credit for. One of the dogs on PYS is a french bulldog, I have one and she is very smart! Great family dog. If anyone is looking to add to their family, the breed is wonderful in my book. If I didnt already have 2 dogs, I would be after the dog myself. I really hope he and the other dog (a husky, i think) find a really good home and that the ppl getting rid of them NEVER get blessed with owning another animal!
Do you know there situation? Unless you know everything who are you to judge? Things happen. Maybe they have orders to a place where they cant take there pet? Who knows, not I and not you. We had a family pet who we were all very close to and one of the hardest decisions I had to make was to rehome him. It wasnt because he became a burden, or we just didnt want to do it anymore. It was the best choice not only for our family but for our very loved and well taken care of fur baby. Circumstances where out of our hands and we had to make a choice. Its been just under a year since we rehomed him and we all miss him terribly but know we did the right thing. The family that we rehomed him to keep us up to date on how he is and send us pics. My whole point is you never know what is going on, instead of being so judgmental maybe there is something you can do to help.
Sometimes things happen that make it impossible for someone to keep their pets. We had a very scary moment when we thought we were going to have to rehome our dog. Thankfully my mother in law is going to take her in so we will still be able to see her. Not everyone is lucky to have a relative they trust to take in their pets.
My dog is my love, my baby. He is 100 pounds of happiness. So for me personally I can not imagine because of moving. But I do see how military families try and live a normal life. Dog, cat, school, kids sports. Than all of a sudden they get orders and realize oh crap this is harder than I thought. I do see that point of view. I know people have their reasons. But our last move it was hard to get dog, cat, 3 kids and fish where we needed to go. If it means your sanity I rather the animal go somewhere where it's love. Rather than a person get so overwhelmed the animal and kids gets neglected. Still not an excuse, just a thought.
I just did a cross country, so moving and travelling with a pet isnt a reason to me. Nor is being in the military a very good excuse either. I have yet to find a duty station that didnt allow pets. Our animals are as much a part of our family as our children, so for me to think of giving one away would be like asking me to give one of my kids away. Its NOT happening. Regardless of me judging someone or not, its my opinion and what I feel. Plain and simple!
I am not saying its ok. But if was between a dog and someone' s sanity, I would take the dog for them. I would say 90% of the time it is ignorance. But I do feel bad for those can not handle military life as easy as others. I would not want a mom to get so depressed and overwhelmed because she thought she could handle it all.
I agree moving isnt a reason to leave a pet. We moved ourselves from camp Pendleton to MN. We did it in 4 days so we could stop and rest. We had the uhaul towing a car and then a second car I drove with a cat and two dogs. It wasn't fun and I was glad when it was over but i wouldn't have thought to leave my Pets behind. Maybe if we got stationed overseas I would have my pets keep our cat only because she is 14 and has a lot of health problems so the flight would be really hard for her but that's something my parents and I talked about. We have a back plan for the pets if something happens like we get in a crash or something horrible like that.
Ya, I am just think of the 1% of people who have valid reason. I just have a hard time accepting so many ignorant people. I try to give people benefit of doubt, but the real world is scary.
I agree puppylove. We have a back up plan in place as well. We took 5 days to come from Virginia to Cali with our dog and cat. Made a cat home out of our huge dog crate with a cat pan and everything. Sure it wasnt fun, but we all got here safe and sound. Where there is a will, there is a way. Seems alot of ppl take the easy way out (give away or sell) where as the true pet lovers take the extra steps have their pets with them no matter what!
I traveled from GA to CA with my 95 lb dog, cat, bird, turtle, fish and my two year old daughter. No one got left behind. It was not fun but I would never leave any of my animals behind. Moving is a lame excuse to get rid of your pets.
The crazy part is that the person that has the two dogs up for sell on PYS says they are moving soon. However, they are advertising that they clean houses as well.. All listed today.
The way I see it, yes it's sad but if they are just willing to get rid of animals because of "moving", then I can bet they probably didn't take the best care of them. Hopefully they can get a better 2nd home.

I would love to think this is true but I had a friend who gave her cat away when she moved but she was a great owner to that cat. Not saying I agree with rehoming an animal because you move but I do think you can be a good owner to the pet well you have the pet even if you rehome the pet for stupid reasons.
They said they are moving to Hawaii and it is two expensive to take the pets because they have to go through some kind of testing before they can take them over their. As well the testing takes like 120 days they said. IDK thats just what they told me. I told them I would give them $50 and I would give the Bulldog a good home and they said no. I just feel bad for the poor dogs.
We moved to Northern Cali for recruiting duty, we had one heck of a time finding a renting company to take my rott. I was in tears begging someone to take us. Since he was CGC certified, they waved the fee. But I never imagined when I got him the restrictions he had. I love him, but unless I own a house I would never get another breed like that. Its to heartbreaking.
Calimommy we have a Rott as well, we had to list her as a Lab mix on our lease for the same reason.. I know poodles that are more scary than our big bear.
I would never dream of giving her up though, it breaks my heart to see and hear these stories!

Some homeowner insurance companies won't write you a policy if you have an "agressive" breed either...
Top of the list for insurance companies to turn you down are rotties, dobies, pits.
And, you can't just say you don't have 'em. If they end up biting someone, you'll be in for a world of hurt in more ways than one.
Also, some housing subdivisions will ban breeds via their convenants and restrictions.
Ditto to what Shizzle said. While looking to buy a home in NC some subdivisions that we loved didn't allow German Shepherds as well as the other breeds listed above.
