Looking for anyone's personal opinions on the high school, we are moving here and not sure if we should choose the housing area for this school. I have a daughter that will be in 11th grade. Looking for any personal advice on the other high school for Camp Pendleton area also. Thanks in advance.

I'd do everything I could to avoid Oceanside High School. Look at San Onofre for housing, she could attend San Clemente High School - MUCH better option. Plus, San Clemente is an adorable little surf town. :)

Oceanside high has a bad rep but it's not that bad. I was worried coming here because of the reviews and rumors..
I have two kids in high school both started in 9th grade. One very out going child one extremely shy and they both are excelling academic wise & sports wise... As with any school of you raise them right they will be fine :)

Only downfall is girls sports- not a lot of money for them but they work hard on fundraisers ect.

Look for recommendations from people who actually have/had kids attend Oceanside HS not people that "hear" it's a bad school.

Both of my kids did 4 years at OHS, both of them received full scholarships to UCLA (one athletic for soccer the other academic).

I laugh when people talk about how "bad" OHS is. I think they need to stop watching "Lean on Me". I mean you do usually see tons of gang activity and violence in a school that just put in the nicest and most expensive athletic stadium in North County right? *rolls eyes*.

You have blinders on if you think ANY high school doesn't have its problems and share of derelicts it's up to your kid to avoid those distractions though.

High School is what the kid makes of it nothing more or less. OHS offers the opportunity for kids to excel just the same as El Camino high school, San Clemente high school...etc.

Then again an adorable little surf town should be a deciding factor on your child's education. lol. j/k!

I've had issues with the school. The teachers saying things that are uncalled for etc. but the principal is very open and if you are an active parent and go to him with issues they can get resolved...
As with any school.
