I know there is a million threads on taxes but I don't want to read them all. My husband was gone 4 months last yr (Afghanistan) . Would we get more or less refund this Time? I've heard both so hopefully someone with experience can tell me :) he's a sgt if that matters . Thanks 

It really depends on how your filing (joint, head of house etc). Also what your gross household income was, and dependents if there are some. When my husband deployed we had one child Anne was gone 8 months, our return was no more than usual. 

Ours was the same. This year no deployment and we will get a tiny bit more back, but we also had a baby. Its going to depend if he got a bonus ( prob bump into a higher tax bracket) if you work and make enough income (to putyou in a higher tax bracket) and dependents but really you shouldn't get more back in general because that income isn't taxed. 

We got less. 

It depends on your particular circustances. People who actually have a tax liability normally (1/2 of all Americans do not) then it will lesson your tax liability. If your witholdings are not set up correctly and too much is being taken out then it would increase how much you will be refunded. If you do not have an actual tax liability and are getting back extra due to earned income credit it could have a positive or negative impact on that depending on where you will end up falling on the spectrum for that credit. 

You can play with it too and see what it looks like if you make the pay taxable.
