Okay first question, I am 7 months pregnant and currently go to the naval hospital for appointments, will we have insurance and if I do how can I transfer to a new OB?
How does unemployment work and what is needed to file for it?
How does the GI bill work and how long does it take for my husband to receive the housing allowance for it?
My husband has a classes this week so he will most likely have these questions answered but he sucks at communicating things with me.
Any other recommendations/ advice anyone has please let me know. Thank you so much.
Yes so far my plan contains a place to live and some other information I have read about. I just want to be well informed. I dislike not knowing and not being organized or prepared for sudden changes like this.
The GI Bill BAH will begin after classes start. How much he will receive will depend on how many units he is taking. If he decides to attend a school in this area (like Miracosta) it will be $1929 and it is paid in arrears. But BAH is dependent on the zip code of the school he attends. This is all post-911 GI Bill, btw. Also, if he hasn't started the enrollment process for school he might want to get going. There are hardly any classes left that are open at Miracosta. Spring semester there starts Jan 14.
Edited to add: It will probably take a few months to get the BAH but the VA will backpay what they owe once they process the claim.
Written by a former Marine (Mike Abrams). Very helpful in the transition process. No I don't get a kickback for this or anything...just an excellent source of information.
There is some type of insurance for up to 6 months after seperating
I'm not a 100% sure it's been a while since I got out and I had my husband to do inc so I didn't pay attention to much. I THINK I remember them talking about TriWest (a few years ago when I got out they said it was like $200 a month).
There's some form of tricare insurance paid quarterly (used to be $155 ish, but this was 6 years ago, Hah my pops brought me the bill and asked If i wanted to pay it (of course it had nothing to do with separation, it was me being too old to qualify for reg tricare due to age, blah blah blah all that is unrelated Hah, call tricare they should be able to give you an purest.

I was 2 months pregnant when my husband got out (EAS). TriCare Standard is what they offered me. I could no longer be enrolled in Prime. I called and spoke with TriCare and it was around 2,500 every three months. It's worth checking into but it is costly.
**I was on Prime with Triwest but once I moved back to Texas it was Tricare South and they only offered a 6 month extension for standard.

You can keep standard but it is pricy.
How does unemployment work and what is needed to file for it? You need your dd-214 to file. He will actually fill out the papers and fax them in. But there's a waiting period. If in Ca he will get $900 deposited on a prepaid card for boa. BUT he must be looking for work.
How does the GI bill work and how long does it take for my husband to receive the housing allowance for it? It really depends on what his discharge papers say because they have change a lot of the rules. Also over the "breaks" he will not receive any bah

I would say try to line up a job ASAP. If need be look into medical. Don't stress to much and just start the school process ASAP. Like filling out fasfa. Enrolling at the campus. Taking placements. Meeting with the counselors.
