If you were over the weight limit....how much over were you & how much did you pay?
TIA!

alwaysright --- 12 years ago -

the rate changes frequently, but last I heard it is about. 75cents per pound.

accountnickname --- 12 years ago -

70 lbs over and so far we haven't been billed anything.

accountnickname....how long ago was your move?

Mrs Patch --- 12 years ago -

Are you going overseas?

YouReallyThinkSo --- 12 years ago -

Is your move over with? We had friends that moved a few weeks ago and the company TMO used said they were over, it was a lot more than what you are over it was over a 1000 pounds but this wasnt my friends first TMO move and she had a idea or at least a rough idea about weight and what they said it was no where near. She called TMO and TMO phoned a weight station and had them do a check. The moving company had added things to the truck that wasnt on the list and didnt belong to my friends. It was going to cost them a pretty penny.

Several months ago, we are at the point where we think we might not be billed at all. I was told that it is at the contractor's discretion if they choose to bill for the excess or not.

Nothing could be added to ours btw, because our HHG were packed into all those crates and sealed rather than placed on a truck. We knew we were going to be overweight, it wasn't a surprise. We don't have a ridiculous amount of stuff, we just have a lot of really heavy stuff.

I think it really does depend on the company because we were close to 2,000 pounds over weight once and we were never charged.

I'm amazed people are over the weight limit!? We just moved to HI in August. We are a family of 7 and were allotted about 14,000 lbs for this last move and they said we were at a little over 8,000!? Ours were all in sealed crates, too and I thought we had a TON of stuff. Does that sound right?

Our limit was 11,000. We have a huge book collection (14+ boxes of books alone), probably 1,000 lbs of a collection my husband has, a pin ball machine, and other things that weigh a lot. All our furniture is solid wood or wrought iron and is ridiculously heavy. It just adds up.

alwaysright --- 12 years ago -

it might be one of those things they collect on come final audit.

Thanks everyone for your comments....

So we went and talked to DMO (TMO) & were told that they deduct 10% for packing material and deduct PRO gear so we're actually only over around 240 lbs. phew!

I have no idea how we have so much. Our max weight was 8,000 lbs. it doesn't seem like we have much but it really does add up!

And I've heard of companies being fraudulent about it! That's not how it was with us though....our truck was completely packed. They couldn't have fit one more thing in there. They actually had to have another truck come pick up some of it.

No one told us that, lol. Well that would probably be why we haven't received a bill.
