My hubs is separating from the military....he's getting a severance....so anyone know how long it takes to actually get that money in the bank account??? His SSGT got his in about a week....any info would be greatly appreciated!!!

AZbound --- 12 years ago -

My husband isn't getting his until a week or two after his EAS

JAMS --- 12 years ago -

Is he separating voluntarily or not?

Allison --- 12 years ago -

My husband is getting it as well. He checked out on the 14th and it has yet to hit our bank. The guy at outbound said 10-14 business days from the day you get your dd214.

marinewifey143 --- 12 years ago -

hmmm....so I guess we won't see it for awhile....wth....they rate it so they should pay up right? Allison....someone told my hubs 5-0 business days after he takes his papers to IPAC.....what a bunch of crap! :{ and AZbound....why does he have to wait until after his EAS? Did you husband have terminal leave or stay until their actual EAS?

Clinical Depression --- 12 years ago -

One of the conditions on the severance paperwork is that if you voluntarily take terminal leave ahead of an impending forced out you will not be given a severance package.

they rate it so they should pay up right?

Nobody said it was going to be taken away? The government has to audit the Marine first, and foremost over the past X amount of years the Marine has been in to make sure they don't owe anyone in the government. I'd imagine the government has a hard time giving money away.

I don't imagine DFAS will pay someone on a non-payday so if he got out the 14th, it'll probably come on the next pay cycle.

Did this SSGT EAS already?

I suggest people look into the early out program ahead of an impending forced out. I think the program is VEERP? You can potentially get early out money AND separation pay (if you qualify, of course).

AZbound --- 12 years ago -

I have no idea.....it's confusing to me.
He starts terminal in two weeks & is getting severance in the very beginning of December. His EAS is the end of Novmenber.
We've heard so many different things during this like he won't get it if he takes terminal, he will get it a couple weeks after he submits it, it could take 6 months to know if he's getting it, etc. and none of those have happened. Hopefully everything goes like we've been told it will now which is we will get it with his last paycheck.

They do in special cases all the time. Travel pay etc. It takes time though as CD pointed out. Once IPAC/disbursing get the paperwork they have to get it over to DFAS and everyone has to do their part in the system. If he rates it, it'll be there.

Haha, forgot that one.

Even so this coming Friday is the next pay cycle. Also I have a question if you sell back leave dates anyone know when that money comes??? Husband couldn't take terminal like planned due to being hospitalized for 3 weeks proir to checking out. :-(

marinewifey143 --- 12 years ago -

I found out today... they told my hubs that they will withhold his last pay which will be 11/30 and then 2 weeks after that we will get the severance pay plus his last check in one lump sum....wth...really??? WHY hold his last paycheck?!?!?!? I'm so confused with the military stuff...usually if you quit or get fired from a company they have to pay you right when you leave.... :( So AZBOUND does your hubs already have a job waiting? I begged my husband not to get out but he said that things were not the same in the Corps so he wanted out....I hope he can find a job in this economy!!!

penny --- 12 years ago -

marinewifey143,

Does he have any education/skills? Tell him to look into the VA hospitals. They give 5 point Veteran preference when applying for jobs & have them all over. Just look up USAjobs and see what they have listed. Also, he should be able to collect unemployment for at least 6 months.

AZbound --- 12 years ago -

He will be doing real estate in AZ when we move back....he already has his license.
He's also going to be working with my step dad, he owns a big pool company.

Your husband can collect unemployment for a while till he finds something and/or go to school and use his GI bill.

Pending the state allows it, which not all do.

**I meant collecting unemployment and the GI Bill BAH. There are numerous threads on here about it.

When you quit or get fired in the civi world, you are normally not fronted any money along the course of your employment. (there are exceptions)

Your husband's pay history needs to be audited to make sure he wasn't overpaid along the way. Once he's been paid, it kind of hard to get any overpayments back.

BooksRbetter --- 12 years ago -

My husband got out July 14 and saw his money August 11th in the account.

SoonToBeJD --- 12 years ago -

It can take up to 30 days to receive your final paycheck. As someone said earlier, the Marine gets audited and a bunch of work is done to make sure that he's paid the right about and the MC doesn't over or under pay him.
