Any one have information about Kaneohe Bay? I have googled it and I have the basic information I just would like personal experience and if anyone has lived there what is the housing like, costs, and is there a waiting list. Basically any information would be grand :) thank you

IrishTwinsx2plus1 --- 12 years ago -

We just arrived on Hawaii August 18th. Housing on Kaneohe is nutso, ridiculous long waiting list. It's beautiful here :) When do you arrive?

MommasBG --- 12 years ago -

We are supposed to get there in May spew still have some time. Did you end up getting a house yet? I bet its beautiful :) I can't wait! How long did it take to get all of your stuff and vehicle?

IrishTwinsx2plus1 --- 12 years ago -

We are in huge, brand new Army housing lol. The wait for Kaneohe housing is ridiculous, plus, we prefer the busy-ness (lots of shopping choices, restaurants, etc) of this side of the island. Our UB shipment I shipped a month before our flight and it arrived in Hawaii before we left CA, the car that the government shipped was shipped about 25 days before our flight and it arrived the day before we did and our HHG took about 4 weeks, they arrived on the island September 5th and we are hoping to have them delivered next week. We shipped a second vehicle two days before our flight and it took about 10 days to arrive. :)

We are looking into the army base housing. I like being close to shops and business areas. Is there a hospital near by? Good that your vehicle got there. So much to do. I hope it's all worth it. Not that we have a choice :) thanks for the information!

Tripper is the hospital everyone goes to but there is probably a clinic on the base you can use if ya closer. I lived in KBay and we just used the base clinic.

Tripler is right across the 201 from my house, I can see it from my lanais. We are being seen at the Pearl Harbor Naval Clinic. My son saw their pediatrician last Friday, she was kind, asked lots of questions and I didn't feel rushed. None of my kids have been seen at a MTF before, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was a positive experience, so far. Where we live, the hospital, clinic, and shopping (Nordstrom, Lowes, Costco, Target, huge NEX/Commissary) is within 6 miles. I really like being on this side of the island, while my husband has a 20 minute drive (although, living in San Onofre and driving to Horno with all the construction it was near the same lol), it's much more convenient for the family to be over here.

Good to hear there is good medical and close by. Love that there is good shops there too. I would love to get into the army housing. They sound really nice and close to a ton of stuff. Good comparison on the commute :)

How long was the waiting list for the army housing? We arrived here Sept 10th and they said the waiting will be close to 3-4 months for a house that we need but TLA only pays for the 2 months and we havnt found anything were comfortable with off base and that allows pets.It is amaizingly beautiful out here!

KansasPrincess --- 12 years ago -

Also whats the drive like from that base to MCBH?

IrishTwinsx2plus1 --- 12 years ago -

I don't know the wait because we did everything before we arrived on the island. You should call Island Palm, the Leasing Manager is Connie. We arrived on August 18th and had our address on August 20th, moved in September 7th. The commute for my husband is about 15-20 minutes, *never* any traffic. I did the drive from Kaneohe to Honolulu for two weeks taking the kids to school and there was only traffic once and it was because there was an accident in the tunnel, but it only added an extra 20 minutes to our ride. :)

They wouldnt let us be on the actual list until my husband checked in and MCBH housing is saying they take us off the list there if we get on the list at the army base. I really dont undertsand why i wish we could be on both and just take whatever is offered 1st. 15-20 min isnt too bad i was told i would be 20-25. either way isnt horribe hubby was driving from VIsta to the airstation which was 25-30 min with CA traffic so hes used to a commute. I guess we can make a call and see what they tell us. housing here said people have been getting on faster on the army base.

We loved of base in Kailua before we got a base house or the first year we were there. I regretted moving on base once we did. Nothing wrong with but I missed being able to walk out of the apartment and be in that area. I miss it so much.

Kailua is a pretty little town :)

KansasPrincess - they told my friend the same thing - about being on two lists at the same time. She told the Army housing that, who thought it was the most absurd thing they'd ever heard - after all, they want us to do anything and everything to find a house so they can quit paying TLA, right, so they told her they were just keeping her on their list (the Army list) and not telling Forest City. She arrived August 16th and moves into a brand-new Army house, next street down from mine October 1st. They told us the same thing, when we went in to take our names off the FC list, they were like "1stSgt, I specifically told you....blah, blah, blah" and my husband was like "oh, sorry, I was actively searching for housing for my family" LOL, then they were fine. What are they gonna do??

I think you probably can't be on Forest City Navy and Forest City Marine lists at the same time, but the Army housing is Island Palm, so it's not like a centralized database.

It's ridiculous. Forest City would rather people stay in TLA for 60 days, move off base, be homeless, whatever, just so long as they stay on THEIR waiting list and they eventually get the servicemember's BAH, very shady, IMO.

Heck maybe WE need to get on the army wait list
