Has anyone had ParaGuard as birth control? What were your experiences with it? Did active duty insurance cover the cost entirely? I was considering getting in before my husband leaves the military.

Barbie --- 12 years ago -

I got mine while I was on AD and it was completely paid for it.

CaliJuicy --- 12 years ago -

I got mine, and got pelvic inflammatory disease.

Aren't you suppose to have children already if you want the ParaGard inserted? I heard it's not safe to have when you have not had children yet. Then again, I am not sure if this has changed.

It's been a while but that's what they told me too

I had it for a year and now I cat get pregnant. Except there is a small chance by some miracle I am but I highly doubt it. My friend had it and it perforated her uterus. She is now down a uterus and an ovary.

But hey I was free!

I guess I'll stick to the pill - thanks for the input

KadMar --- 12 years ago -

I've had it since 2010 and haven't had any problems.

HotGeekChick --- 12 years ago -

please do not get it. i had mirena, i realize not the same but still an iud, and now i have damage to my fallopian tubes and just suffered my second miscarriage since having it removed. its very sad. please ladies...do not get iud's. some people don't have problems. but who wants the risk?! also if you havent had kids, it could fall out. happened to my friend and now she has a 1 yr old. lol

Maleficent --- 12 years ago -

I had 2 kids and mine fell out. I should have listened to my body instead of getting it put back in.

IMO there was good reason they were taken off he market in the 70s to begin with.

AZbound --- 12 years ago -

I had the Mirena for 3 yrs and never had a problem. I loved it!

AZbound --- 12 years ago -

I've heard horrible things about paraguard though....

California760 --- 12 years ago -

I don't have any children and I had one and HATED it! It pierced my uterus and gave me the worst abdominal pain of my life and I had to rush into the doctors to get it removed!

I'd never recommend it to anyone, the idea of something foreign floating around in my body bothers me now!
