Seriously people its called pendleton yard sales for a reason if your not on camp pendelton stay off it. why would i want to drive 30 40 mins to get something from you for $5 when i could get it brand new with the gas i would be wasting driving to you and back???? UGHH sorry just had to vent. OH also aggravating when people ask me to meet somewhere. NO! if driving to mainside is too far too bad im not wasting my gas for you. thanks for reading, i know im not the only one who feels this way,or am i??
I don't live on Camp Pendleton but my husband was stationed there for 7 years and I've lived here for 7 1/2 now (he is a recruiter now). I can list things on there all I want. Many of us live in certain areas where we don't have to drive that far so it works just fine if we need to pick up. Also it's fairly common ime to have to pick up things. When I list on Craigslist I expect the person to come to me. It is usually big stuff and I'm not going to cart it somewhere before they've seen it and decided for sure if they want to buy it. Sorry that it is frustrating you.
meeting half way is perfectly reasonable but your right a 45 min drive for something only worth $5 isn't worth it, good thing you have the choice to do business with them or not.
What if I don't live near Camp Pendleton? We'd love to have you live closer. You are still free to buy and sell as you please, but it may make it more inconvenient for sellers/buyers, making the exchange less likely. Like a live sale.
Oh no, I actually agree with you completely! Some people post on pys from 50 miles away. I mean seriously? Craigslist would work better for people out there. But, if you r to post on PYS just like the FAQ says, you might not get a sale when being so far away. I guess it really depends upon how much the buyer really wants that item. Personally, I'm more comfortable purchasing from someone on pys then on Craigslist no matter how far away they are.
The thing is that there is a large military population in the Temecula area and they can sell to each other on PYS too. When I list on PYS (rarely) I do so with plans to come on base one day to deliver everything. I use Craigslist for things that are bigger. However I can see many reasons why people would use PYS to sell when they live off base, especially when they are selling crafts. Even just to market their items to other people in the Temecula area it makes sense. Seriously, at least half my neighbors are either military or former military families.
Rude much? I live 45 mins from base, my husband makes the drive every day and if I feel like buying/selling on PYS I will do as I please. I do not ever expect people to drive to me, and ALWAYS head down to meet them on base.
I live close to the back gate and will state that in my ad when I post. But if I am going onbase, I will gladly meet someone. If wanting to buy something from someone in Temecula or San Onofre, I ask if they ever come down to Oceanside/Base and I will meet them on base. Usually the husband (or the poster themselves) work on base.
The thing that "urks" me about PYS and TYS are people who pay people to watch their kids for less than minimum wage A lot of jobs pay minimum wage I babysit and dont expect minimum wage. I charge a flat daily fee and its not minimum wage. If you want to make that much money go get a job. Even licensed, FCC and preschools dont charge minimum wage. Even if someone makes 10 dollars a hour if they pay you minimum wage after taxes they take home what like 10 a day if that. And that doesnt count gas. I dont think daycare should be extremely cheap but I think people need to be reasonable.
I dont mind if people post that dont live on the base as long as it says in the listing or profile that they live outside of the base.
yeah I hate not seeing a location under the profile name, or it just says oceanside, and not saying on base or off base oceanside, or the freaking side of base you live on.. mines say camp pendleton/ wire mountain 2, makes it ALOT convenient to people in the area. but hate it when people ask me where im located...umm did you not see it on the ad??

uhm no its not rude at all actually bc if you read what i was saying, everyone im trying to buy from wants me to drive to them. but thanks.

If you want a babysitting gig that pays minimum wage then go work for a center. Minimum wage in CA is $8/hr and babysitting is not a means by which to make a salary or a career out of. Nannying, yes, babysitting on a Friday night, no.
