Does anyone know if you can move from one housing area on base to another. I currently live in Stuart Mesa and the commute is horrible for my husband! So I was wondering if we could be on the waiting list for San Onofre even though we already live in Stuart Mesa. Thanks in Advance!
Hahahahaha...No. I have asked...multiple times.
BTW - I am not trying to be rude to you...I just do not like LMH. :)
ETA: Not sure what the rank requirements are...nor do I know what rank your husband is...but in our case, my husband is an E3, we live in Serra Mesa - if he could, by some miracle, get promoted, we could move because Serra Mesa is for E1-E3.

Not true.
Yes you can. You need to call Lincoln and find out what you need. Your husbands CO (I believe) will need to write a letter

Really?? They have told me no on multiple occasions - we either have to have another baby...or he has to get promoted. But - I am calling now...I hate Serra Mesa..

yeap and proof its a financial burden and such to go along with it.
I have tried also, I even had the XO & CO write a letter- AND ZIP, It isn't Lincoln it is CENTRAL HOUSING. I have talked to LINCOLN personaly about moving and they don't really care, like I said it is the central housing office that makes the decision.
I JUST called - she told me moving from district to district is not permitted. You can submit an exception to policy, but it involves the Col. - so...in other words, no. Like Ashlyn's Mommy said...if you can prove that it is a financial burden, I am sure that would be an exception to policy.
You need to submit an exception to policy letter, stating why you have a need to move. If they approve your letter then they (your housing district) will put in a transfer for you. It's simple, but the letter have to be approved.
The exception to policy needs to be signed by the CO :)

Thats what we filed to move from san o to south mesa1. but were preggo as well.
you have to jump through HOOPS to get outta the housing your in and move to another. The easiest way is to get pregnant or your hubs get promoted other than that good luck i went through hell for like 4 months trying to get into a 1 story house for MEDICAL reasons
I have done this 2 times, and for the same reason. I live in Stuart Mesa, my hubby works in HORNO and wanted to be moved in SAN O 1. They said No in both letters and said I had good enough housing.
Yes you can just call your housing office and ask what all you need to do. The only problem is you have to have a good reason why, letter from your Husband, and from your Husband's command. I'm working on moving from San O to South Mesa housing (somewhere over there) After I get everything I send it to the housing office and it takes 3-4wks to get a yes or no.
i dont understand why they dont just let you move. if you were out in town and your lease expired you could find another apt. so if your lease expires with one housing area why cant you move to a different housing area? ... know what i mean?
If you are requesting to move for others reasons than EXAMPLES-When you pick up rank from a sgt-ssgt and live in E-5 below housing you can move OR If you get preggo and need a bigger home for your family ( like you have a 3 bed and preggo with your 3rd baby you can move) OR someone in your family is put on EFMP- These are examples that you should not need a letter for exception to policy.
I live in pet housing in Stuart Mesa and was not pet housing when I moved here 2 years ago, I can also move without a ETP letter. I am actually in the process now. The thing is that they want to move me to DEL MAR? I didn't even know there was Staff Housing there?

you do need a letter if your preggo to move housing areas. i tried without and it was a no go, and with a letter we got moved.
I do not want to move to DEL MAR, I said can't I just move to nonpet housing in Stuart Mesa? They said No because it is ALL jr enlisted. I don't really care that a PFC lives next to me I AM A DEP, I AM EQUAL TO THEM.

What is with the random capitalization? Anyways...YOU may be equal to them, your husband is not. It is a separation of ranks.
My hubby and does not care were we live. We have been in the military for 15 years and I think my hubby has communicated with our SNCO neighbors maybe once. I live in Quantico all ranks housing and had tons of friends of all ranks

...YOU may not care - but unless your husband is buddy-buddy with the General Conway and can change it...then there will continue to be a separation of ranks.
All rank housing E-1 to E-7, was fun. It was like having a big family. You would get the young marine families needing a extra set of hands to help them with the babies and then you would get the elder marine families that would give you good advice and have teenagers for babysitting, I LOVED IT!
