This might have been asked but I couldnt find anything like it.

So My husband is going back to comm school in 29 palms and he was just told today that he will have to Fully check out of base because he is not coming back. The problem we face is I have a full time job and we planned on me and kids staying out here until we knew where he was going to get stationed. Well he looked up the BAH rate for 29 and its alot cheaper then out here. Is there any way for him to keep the same BAh rate if he is in 29 and we are living in fallbrook? 

Are his orders "TAD in conjunction" with a PCS? Or is he going PCS for the school?

"TAD in conjunction" with PCS means he will keep Pendleton's BAH until he checks into a new unit after school, "PCS" means he's supposed to move his family to 29 Palms and will get 29 Palms BAH as soon as he checks into the school as it's over 50 miles from Pendleton.


We stayed in our home near Camp Lejeune when Dh went to comm school. Dh stayed in a overflow barracks "under the table" so to speak but still collected 29 Palms BAH as his orders were PCS. It was all they had available for several guys who were geo-baching it while attending Comm school on 9 month PCS orders. 

He thought it was tad with conjunction but i guess its just pcs which frustrates me cause he is only going to school for 6 months which is why me and my kids where going to stay out here. 

It's not that bad of a commute for him if you do decide to stay here. My husband did it for a little over a year, before he deployed. It was suppose to only be a few months, but they postponed the deployment quite a bit.

Anyway - it would take him about 2:20 to get from 29 Palms to Carmel Valley. If you're up in Oceanside, I imagine it'll be closer to 2 hours.

As far as BAH - you're SOL. We were paying for a place for him in 29 Palms on top of the condo we were renting in Carmel Valley. Not fun.

There are a lot of Geo Bach's up there - so there are a lot of homes for rent as roommates. I doubt he'll find billeting with the Comm school, under the radar. And most units cracked down on that anyway. There are trailers to rent on 29 Palms - but if you don't get lucky, you have to share it.

I'd suck it up, keep your family in San Diego, and move once he's done with school. Two moves in a year is a lot on a kid, plus I wouldn't want to give up my job to move to 29 Palms for six months!

^^^ I agree. You might need to tighten up the budget, but you will have 6 more months working, and his orders COULD even change and he'd be back at Pendleton.

Dh will be geo-baching it again if they move his next billet out there. At least this time he will have options on where to live. He was there years ago when they were just starting to kick the Geo's out of the barracks, but hadn't come up with any other solutions. There wasn't much of anything available in town either. It was a mess. 

We were paying $400 a month for the master bedroom in a nice/newer house with a spot in the garage for parking. Not a bad deal at all - and considering he was working such long hours and down in San Diego during the weekend, it was perfect. 

We have a camper now, he may be parking that in a RV park and living out of it, probably someplace close to a golf course knowing him, lol!
