stay in for a few more years if you can.. otherwise.. get educated... document all your ailments for the VA benefits.

Stay in if possible! I have a friend who has worked for the same company for 27 years and was let go 6 months before he was going to retire!
Stay in, retire young..
Good luck in whatever you choose.

Re-enlist if you can.

You can collect unemployment when you get out, but the rules vary per state if you pursue a degree & get BAH AND collect unemployment.

If you're going to file a VA claim start it now.

Start scouting jobs NOW. It sounds hard if you're planning on EASing elsewhere, but it doesn't hurt to get your name out.

^^^ x 100. Can't emphasize that enough.

- Stay in if possible. Getting that pension check is a nice relief after you've just been laid off.

- Get educated as much as possible beforehand. Use that 9/11 GI Bill.

- Start looking for a job now. It's never too early to start networking. The job market still sucks even though Obama says everything is great. Don't expect anything special because you're former military.

- Document EVERYTHING medically. Make copies of your medical record because it will invariably get "lost" (mine's been lost 3 times so far). You'd surprised how much disability you may get.

ditto. they are actually trying to get rid of people now and if you change your mind later, you will have a harder time getting back. many people are trying to get back in and are having a hard time.
