Two weeks ago I delivered a baby at the Navy Hospital here on base. I just wanted to say that beginning to end, it was a fantastic experience. My nurses, Cheryl and Nathalie, were friendly, efficient, helpful, and positive. I felt well taken care of and never pestered. The charge nurses, Amy and Heather, were really pleasant and helpful also. The entire staff, including the residents, were great to work with. I felt like I could do things at my own pace and in my own way with all the support I could have asked for. I had gestational diabetes this time around and with all the additional medication, I imagine it could have been a miserable experience and that they could have pushed for an unnecessary c-section... but it wasn't... and they didn't. I received the necessary medical attention without it ever becoming intrusive. I had a specific birth plan laid out with my first but this time I had my preferences but was more open to staff recommendations. Dr. Antle was the OB on that shift. Dr. Singer had been my doctor throughout the pregnancy and I had really enjoyed working with her but I had to go in on a day she wasn't on call. I had never worked with Dr. Antle before, but she was wonderful also. She listened to my preferences and followed them, but when labor stalled, she made her recommendations (and they were just that... I never felt pressured) and I decided to follow them. It became the best delivery... such a wonderful experience. The remainder of the labor and delivery went so smoothly. I got to bond with my baby immediately afterward and the whole experience remains a joyful one in my mind instead of a traumatic one (my experience at a different hospital the first time around). Overall, I felt cared for and empowered and am grateful for everyone I worked with. (A little shout out to Dr. Chung - who was great during our few interactions - really liked him too.)

It's great that you had such a good experience. I personally liked the staff at the post-natal care, but didn't really have a great experience during the delivery. I felt like a burden, even though I gave them a heads up way at the beginning of my labor.

The NH lost me at "you haven't had enough miscarriages yet." I was supposed to move in March before they would let me have my first apt (fine) but I have a poor history and I am high risk and just wanted a viability check so I wasnt driving to Texas mid miscarriage. They refused, I went to Scripps and the care has been amazing. They caught several problems that routine care at naval would not have caught.

Glad you had a great experience. We had major complication in delivery and they coded us. As soon as they did there was a ton of staff rushing to our room. They were professional and calm. Once our son was delivered they revived him and rushed him away but he was ok a few hours later. They very well saved his life and kept us calm in the process. We didn't know the extent of everything until we met our outstanding nurse in recovery who started to fill us in joking with us that we where the ones causing all the commotion that night. Our first sons heart stopped in labor in a civilian hospital and that experience was horrible with mass panic and Drs and Nurses literally screaming at each other and causing me to panic and not be able to push. Out of our three kids Pendleton Hospital was our best experience. :-)
