We recently got orders from Pendleton to 29 Palms. A few people have told us about a waiver to retain BAH from our previous duty station, but my husbands command is telling us about an "AA Form". I was just wondering if anyone knows anything about the waiver or where I can find info on it. I have been googling it, however not finding too much info & having to "dig" through a lot of Marine Corps orders. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated :)

Never heard of such a thing. Sorry. Doesn't seem likely though with all the cuts.

I doubt they would give you the BAH here, if you lived somewhere else. That's an extra THOUSAND dollars.

Good luck with that.

If you plan on geo-baching it at 29 Palms, you could request BAH for where the dependents would be living. We did that but it was years ago.

Be careful with that though. If you live in Riverside county, they would pull up Riverside's BAH which is still lower than Pendletons.

The AA form is simply a request for the BAH waiver. He has to fill it out, give his reasons (back then 29 Palms was considered a isolated duty for certain medical conditions-we had a kid with congenital pediatric heart conditions and the closest military approved provider would have been Balboa. It'll get submitted up the chain for approval at various levels. If I remember correctly my Dh's new command had to agree to it as well.

Do you have justification for BAH retention? The only one I've ever heard them accept is if you have a house here... but even then it's usually denied. My husband was given PCA orders from MIramar to Pendleton instead of the normal PCS orders. Part of why they gave him those orders is because then they don't have to pay for our move so he had to apply for BAH retention since we needed to maintain our home here in San Diego. It is usually, they will either pay for your move or you get BAH retention (and have a very good reason). Just remember, more often than not when it comes to money and the Marine Corps... deny, deny, deny. Best of luck!

If you intend on maintaing your residence and living in 29 palms then your husband can request to receive BAH at his previous duty station. however, the moment you contact PMO to move, you have forfeited that right.
