We are going to live on base. We have a middle school child and a elementary school child. They have DOD schools? Commissary? Exchange?? Helpful websites ? Also we have two dogs, both under 25 lbs. Really do not want to have to part with them. Please and thank you in advance for helping me and my family.

We are in oki now....my 3 and my husbands 5th...the schools are dod...yes we have commissaries,exchanges,etc....be prepared to pay a ton for groceries....I hope you coupon or start....start your medical stuff for your dogs ASAP...we had to leave our roxy girl behind...hope this helps...good luck on your move 

As far as for your middle schooler, I'd like to point out that there's only one middle school (to my knowledge at least, there's probably another) which is on Camp Lester, the NH is there too. Though from what I understand they're going to be moving the NH. Anyways depending on where your husbands gets attached, determines the housing area youre going to live in. So lets say your husband gets attached to a unit in Camp Kinser, your middle schooler would have to wake up hella early to catch a bus to the school.

Not unless that is, you guys get a housing in Kadena AFB, I believe there's a MS there. 

Your best bet it to get on okinawahai.com and check out the facebook group for okinawahai and start asking questions there. There is A LOT of good info. 

When I lived in Okinawa they were just starting an Okinawa Underground, too.



All the bases have pros/cons. You will not necessarily live on the base you work at. There is no base housing on Courtney, I don't think... I think they all live on McT. Futenma doesn't have housing, either. You will live anywhere from Kadena to Kinser if you're stationed there.
