Jersey Shore Chickie --- 12 years ago -

So my husband is getting out in September and I am trying to figure out what to stock up on from the commissary. We are staying out here since school is less and I have a good job where I can support us, but after going to a regular store (Vons/Albertsons) I realize how much I save at the commissary.

Anyone have ideas what to stock up on???

So far I have 2 years worth of fabric sheets, laundry detergent, J&J baby bath wash and probably a years worth of diapers. We are also NOT on WIC so I stock up on formula as well.

Maybe canned or dry goods that have a long experation date and paper products (i.e. toilet paper, paper towels), and feminine hygiene?

I got a whole bunch of pasta sauce in glass jars. Call me weird, but I have never bought canned veggies.

I also stocked up on body wash and shampoo/conditioner.

I'm thinking of getting more Green Giant boxed veggies and chicken. My grandma sends me an Omaha steak box once a month so I am set on red meat.

Frozens are good to stock up on, but just don't let them sit too long or they could be freezerburned when you go to use them. I don't buy canned veggies either, but some of the canned fruits in thier own juice is good.

Jersey is he being forced out or is he just getting out. That actually makes a difference.

If he's forced due to downsizing don't they keep the commissary benefits for a couple years?

There are a lot of things they keep but yes commissary/mwr/exchange is 2 years. Only if they are forced out before Dec. 31 of this year.

Jersey, some stuff is cheaper but if you shop sales you will find it works out after you pay the surcharge. And as far as razors, soap, cleaning stuff, shampoo, feminine products, diapers, and alot more stuff I find Rite Aide and Walgreens are much cheaper you just need to follow the sales and coupon. Add Krazy Coupon Lady on facebook. Last week I paid 2 bucks a package for huggies diapers. Shaving gel, .45 cents a piece. There are so many deals out there to be had you just have to know where to look. She also breaks it down super easy and makes it not so time consuming. Good luck

He isn't being forced out. He could have resigned for another two year extention, but it would be constantly chasing a promotion and they do not promote many people in his MOS. Instead he is going back to school p/t while watching out little one and I will be working full time. I already sale shop and bargain hunt. I follow Southern California Saver and KCL already.

Is he going to be in the reserves at all? If he gets a reservist ID he can still shop at the commissary.

Jersey Shore Chickie --- 12 years ago -

Nope no reserves just college for nursing.

Hubby gets out the same time, so we've been stocking up on hygiene products, and canned goods as well. I'd also suggest looking up crock pot recipes that go off canned/ pantry goods, frugal yet time and money saving!
