I got a vehicle registration renewal form in the mail. Before sending in my payment I wanted to know if there is any discount for military. My husband isn't here right now so I thought I'd take care of it before he gets back.

dont know if you are a from cali but i know that if you're not you dont have to pay a certain fee. It usually cuts my truck fee in half but you have to fill out a little slip and show ID

I'm from california and I still got the non-resident registration bc my husband is military. My registration for my car was almost $300 but all I paid was $96.

No, we're not from California , we're from NY. Where can I go to fill out the paper? I was just planning on mailing it in.

You can go to the DMV on base they might be able to help you. I have done my car stuff there but my plates are Cali plates.

dmv on base only deals with california....i tried to transfer my plates from iowa to texas when i got here because i didnt have time when i was home and they told me all they dealt with was california vehicles

You fill out the non-resident registration form at the DMV and pay there. You just need your license; military i.d.; registration renewal; and insurance. I personally prefer going to the DMV in San Clemente I get in and out of there in less than 15 minutes everytime!! Unlike the Oceanside DMV the average wait is over an hour and a half >(

For Cali you can print the exemption form off the DMV website, fill it out and mail it in with your registration form and a check (the amount would be minus the license fee, which is what military is exempt from). That's what I've always done. Didn't have to show ID. I don't know if NY is similar, but that's my experience for reference. Much, much easier than going in person.

You're lucky!! I've tried mailing my registration in once and was the last time. While waiting for my updated registration I got a "fix-it" ticket (just my luck) a few days after my renewal date. I called the DMV and they "never received" it. I ended up going to the DMV location and got the registration/sticker myself to avoid paying additional fees. Ever since then I've always just gone to the location just to make sure they receive my docs and payment.

That's weird. I've done it for years without issue...they do take a little while to send you back your stickers, but I just make sure to keep a copy of what I sent in in the car to show an officer if I do get pulled over.
