My daughter is 12, and she played soccer through youth sports in the spring, as well as basketball previously. My sons played soccer last fall, and baseball in the spring. It has been my personal experience with youth sports that it is only recreational, and should be viewed as such. The coaches are volunteers, and watch a video to become qualified to coach. Some of them have no experience with the sport that they are coaching. My daughter had fun playing soccer. The coach was dedicated, and my daughter had a couple of friends on the team. They didn't win a single game, and I don't think they ever broke a sweat during practice. My sons' soccer coach volunteered because the team had no coach assigned to it, and would have been disbanded without a coach. He was a very nice guy. But, the kids had no idea what they were doing that whole season. For basketball, we found out the afternoon of the first gane that there was no coach. They scrambled to find a replacement. Finally, they found a coach who already had a team and agreed to take our team. He had a couple of favorites who got most of the play time in the games. And, at the end of the season, my daughter knew no more about basketball than when she started the season. My son's baseball coach quit in the middle of the season. My advice would be that it depends on your goal. If you just want her to have fun and play, try youth sports. If you want her to be in the sport in a more competitive way, and have a better chance at making the high school team, I'd go with the league in town. It is more expensive; but, it is more professional.

My daughter is 7 and had played on a youth sports team for soccer for the past 2 seasons, going on 3. She's had the same coaches the whole time and they are awesome. My daughter has learned a lot and her team has won all their games. She's going to soccer camp on base also, its with a real british soccer team and she's so excited. I think its a good experience for the kids and its just for fun :)
