Can I take my child to doctors express in Oceanside rather than the ER here on base?

It's technically not an emergency but she's pretty uncomfortable with what's going on

If you are Tricare Prime you have to get a referral.

I have gone to Radys childrens urgent care multiple times. It is off of vista way. I never needed a referral and never have been charged for it.

My guess is it depends on who processes it. I had a friend go to an urgent care, she thought and ER and urgent care were the same thing. Anyway she was charged for it.

We had to get a referral 3 weeks ago for Doctors Express. When we went in they told us we had to have a referral, or we would be charged for the visit.

x2 but I had a friend that got charged for it, when she asked why they said it's because she lives on base and has to use the hospital.

I would just call Tricare & ask them yourself. I think you have to have a referral for the urgent care but not the ER

Thanks:). I did not know about the fast track thing here at the Naval Hospital ER lol....anyway shes doing better :)

Acutally, yes you can and WITHOUT a referral. Doctor's Express has a contract with Tricare so no referral needed. I have been seen there as have two of my children. It's clean, the staff is professional, and it's fast.
