My husband and I are wondering if there are any regulations concerning fire pits. We live in stuart mesa and he wants to have a chiminea and place it on our patio. I said we probably wouldn't be allowed to but he insistes we can have a fire pit of any kind on our patio. Does anyone know of an actual rule? I googled and came across nothing.

I know where I live we can't use one without obtaining a burn permit prior to each use from the local fire department. I would call the fire department and ask (plus ask housing).

It says you cant have one but I called housing about our neighbors going to bed leaving there fire pit burning on the patio under the over hang and they said they dont enforce the rule and as long as people do it safely its ok. Our neighbors was not safe and I went and knocked on the door to let them know it was still burning just encase they thought they put it out and no one answered. I dont know if they left or where sleeping cause it was night time but there was no way I could go to sleep with a fire burning under a over hang with no one to watch it. Housing told me I had to call PMO and they came over and went onto the patio and put it out.

If you can be responsible get one, they are fun specially during the summer but use common sense. Some people I swear are freaking stupid.

thanks all!

I called housing before we got ours and they said they were allowed. I wanted to make sure we weren't doing anything we weren't suppose to. So i'm not sure where it says you can't.

Just make sure you put it away and don't store it where it is visible.

i had mine on my front porch, with a canvas cover of it, behind a large pillar and housing gave me a notice to store it where it wasn't "visible" which left my back patio or garage as my only 2 options.

It says in your lease. But housing said they dont enforce it.

I live in WM3 and we use our fire pit all the time esp for sleep overs and birthday parties we do smores at night. But then again, I live in a corner house and my housing area is very vacant so I have no neighbors to say anything about it. But I do put the fire out when we are done.

Wonder if there is an updated lease and ours is older.

YouReallyThinkSo --- 13 years ago -

Ours is a year and half old, so not to sure. Maybe they stopped putting it in the lease, I have no idea. But when I called the person I spoke to in Stuart Mesa housing recognized it as a rule but said they didnt enforce it. They have had them for sale at the Stuart Mesa PX and I dont think they would sell them if housing didnt allow them. Who knows when I call and ask a question at housing and than as someone else at housing they all seem to have different answers.

It's in our lease from March but so is not having pets lol and we all know that's not enforced. We have them every once in a while in our driveway and PMO just drives by.
