For those that have had kids what did you use for pain if anything? I'm starting to weigh my options so that I have an idea what I want to do when the time comes. Any stories and reasons for choosing what you did would be great.

I used an epidural for most of them, but the last two were epidural/medication free. I hated, with the epidural, being confined to the bed and it took me a LONG time to recover from it. I honestly thought, for me, recovery is easier without the epidural.

I was induced with all of mine, so on Pitocin for hours and the pain without the epidural was intense towards the end, but not unbearable.

I had an epidural and wouldn't think of delivering without one. I have no desire to feel natural childbirth. My labor was very short (6 hours, roughly) so laying in bed didn't bother me. I took a nap before it was push time. I didn't feel recovery was that long... I was very sore for about a week down there and my back just felt bruised.

I've used an epidural when there were issues going on and we needed pitocin (at the highest level they are allowed to use) to get my son there asap. I've also done natural. I have no problem using meds when it is needed, but if not natural is a lot better ime. Yes it hurts during the delivery (but if you prepare it is totally manageable) but afterwards you feel amazing. I was literally up and feeling like normal never given birth right after I finished nursing right after birth.

All 3 I had to be induced with pitocin. I hate that stuff. No epidural for me, mostly for the fact that I was to scared to get it. They gave me some kind of drug in my iv but it only lasted for about 15 minutes and it was more of a relaxing drug not something that took the pain away. This last one they had the pitocin to high, caused problems with my delivery cause it was so high my labor was really intense but in afterwards I healed really fast.

I was up cleaning out our fridge the day after we came home. I felt better than I did while pregnant.

My son had a nuchal hand, cord around his neck 2-3 times, major decels, I was passing out and on oxygen etc. Since I have a history of very fast deliveries they decided to put pitocin on the highest possible level before going in for an emergency c-sec. They would not do it until I had an epidural because of how that high of pitocin would impact my body. Thankfully it worked and my son arrived probably faster that prepping for a c-sec would have taken.

Yep! Without meds I immediately felt better than I had in the last month or two of pregnancy. With meds I had some soreness and it took a few days to feel more normal.

I had an epidural with the first two. With my last baby I had him all natural because I had such bad reactions to the epidural. I preferred no meds.

Had epidurals with my two girls. They were both induced and it took forever. Had my son completely natural. Went to the hospital and they sent me home with "false labor". He was born two hous later in the emergency room of a crappy hospital we had to stop at because there was no way I would have made it back to the hospital that sent me home. I will say I felt fantastic after the natural birth. I could have hopped off the delivery table, washed him myself, strapped him in the car seat and drove home.

I had an epidural. Mainly cause I had back labor and it felt like my back was breaking. With my first they had the dose way to high and it didn't get out of my system for about 12 hours til I could stand up. With my second they had the dose a little low which I didn't mind. I didn't have pain and I could still move my legs.

Same for me. Also in my case I already knew I would have back labor, because BH felt like a backache. Plus when I got to the hospital they told me my contractions were 2-3 mins apart and I could barely feel it. So basically with my back labor it was easy as pie until I started having contractions like every min.

I was in labor 19 hours and spent a good chunk of those hours walking around the hospital because I didn't need an epidural for a looooong time into labor.

And sorry for my ramble.

Vod Kaknockers --- 13 years ago -

I had an epidural. Loved it, I didn't have any problems after it wore off.

AZbound --- 13 years ago -

I had an epidural with my two kids and with the twins (surrogacy) I didn't have anything. I would never willingly (unless my baby or I were in danger) go natural. With my kids I was able to relax, take a nap, enjoy the birth, and I was only numb for about an hour after I had them but after that I was just fine. With the twins I was in so much pain that right after I had them the anesthesiologist came in and gave me anesthesia. I was knocked out for 3 hrs. To each their own.
