I think it's always crazy lol...they have lots of parking on the side streets anywhere from $7-$20, depending on how far you want to walk. I think it's worth it if you've never been and if you have kids that would appreciate and like the things there are to do, like the wax museum, ripley's, etc.
We paid $7 for parking and it was in a gated with an attendant. Some of them are farther away from center of everything but you can get closer for more money.
We parked in a parking garage right next to I want to say CVS/Trader Joes or something like that. But it's basically right after the Walk of Fame and on the right. We went on a weekday so it wasn't too busy and we were able to take pics of everything we wanted too. It was fun and we didn't make a special trip to go though. We were already up there to be apart of a tv taping.
I parked my car in a meter just on a side street. I felt perfectly safe leaving my car there and it was cheaper. It was about 2 blocks from the theater. I think it is worth going at some point but you have to be prepared that it is always a mad house. It is an amazing people watching venue and fun to put your hands and feet in your favorite star's spots! My fav is Judy Garland. I was Dorothy for about 4 years for Halloween as a kid :)
We always park at CVS/ Fresh and Easy on the right hand side a block or 2 up from the theatre. 8 Dollars MAX full day. We ALWAYS find parking there and never had a problem.
I park my car right at the Hollywood and Highland parking structure and then we just get out and walk or take the metro up to Universal City walk. I can't remember how much we've paid, if anything. I personally wouldn't waste any money to see Ripley's because there's nothing really that great there. The Hollywood was museum is ok, but I have wanted to instead visit the Madame Tussauds they were putting in a while back. The Guiness isn't that thrilling either. I guess all three are something everyone likes to do once as a tourist, but I wouldn't do it again. My favorite are the street celebrity impersonators.
