I have done all kinds of research but I'm still mixed up about how the process really works. I'm trying very hard not to nag my husband since he's busy getting settled in at his new unit, but he's not having a lot of luck getting the answers we're needing. It seems like a lot of his NCO's aren't married, so they don't really know and the ones that are married have been in the field and not around. So since I'm trying to rein in the crazy for my husband, I apologize in advance for the major headcase you all are about to deal with.

1. I've read several places about having to do a class before a move. I've seen some that say the class is on base and some that say it's online. Which is actually the case? How far out from the move do you have to take the class? We have a house on base as of tomorrow, so my parents and I are planning on leaving Friday, but I'm suddenly worried that we haven't given the right people proper notice. If the class is online, am I allowed to take it since my husband won't have much to do with the move anyway?

2. We got married while he was on leave from SOI about a month before his orders were cut. However, his NCO's at Geiger never took the time to change his status to married and so we did everything once he got to Pendleton. The big question here is even though his status has changed, does he have to do something to get his orders changed for the move? I don't think we're going to be anywhere close to our max. allowed weight anyway, so it might not matter, but we were planning on driving my car and towing his truck since I get better gas mileage.

3. There were some things furniture things we were just planning on buying out there, especially since we haven't seen more than the floorplan of our new place (San O II), but with the reimbursement should I buy it here and pack it in the rental truck?

I know some of you prefer TMO moves, but it's unfortunately not an option for us. Since he was in training when we got married and we didn't move in together afterward, our stuff is in three different places. So a DITY move it is.

Good luck, everyone that we have known to get orders and their spouse wasn't on them, didn't get reimbursed for their move. Even if they were married prior to the move.

Move.mil

^^^^^^ is the website for the class, yes you can take it, but you may need him to set everything up so you can log on. I know when we moved, he had to do everything at work on a government computer, it wouldn't let us do anything on our own computers.

with the reimbursement should I buy it here and pack it in the rental truck?

I would personally buy it before you go because it adds weight for your move.

That's what I was afraid of and it hadn't occurred to me until today. Did they not even get reimbursed for the weight allowed a Marine without dependents?

I am pretty sure they didn't get anything.

All right, I guess we'll figure it out. Thank you!

I would still turn everything in, the worst they can do is say no.

When my husband was given his first station, our daughter and I weren't on the orders (not sure why, we had gotten married about 4 months prior...). I don't remember exactly what happened, but we did end up getting reimubursed....about a year and half later once everything was fixed. I had actually forgotten all about it when I logged on to my bank account and saw that a couple thousand had been deposited. Same thing happened to our friends (we were reimbursed at the same time).

If housing has a house ready for you b/c you've already applied and all that jazz, then that means everything you turned in is sufficient and the house should be yours tomorrow when you pick up the keys.

As far as buying furniture, yes, you'll get more money per pound, but take into consideration:
1. you may need to spend more to rent a bigger truck
2. gas will cost more
3. the furniture may not fit in the house you get
4. you'll have to carry/move more (heavy) things
