My cousin is staying with me and the kids for a few months while Dh is deployed. I'm due in a few days so he came out to help me. I wanted to know if there's a way to get him a temporary id that he can use to pick up groceries for us while I'm recovering. I've stocked up as best as I can, but we always run out of things like milk and fruit. Does anyone know if something like this exists? Or is there a way he can pick up a few essentials? He would only need the id for 2 weeks max. Thanks so much!

Donny --- 13 years ago -

Not unless he's a dependent on your husband's Page 2. What's wrong with him heading out in town to get groceries and essentials you need?

jallyse --- 13 years ago -

Go to pass and ID, also base housing. He needs a pass from both. My gma did that when I had both of my sons.

Ashleigh --- 13 years ago -

Nothing really, he's just nervous about driving in a new area. We're going to base housing tomorrow. What will he get at pass and id?

Mrs Patch --- 13 years ago -

From Pass and ID they give the AD member a form to fill out basically saying he is sponsoring your cousin to be on base. It's valid for 90 days. The Passa and ID will sign it.

jallyse --- 13 years ago -

A base pass with limited privileges, ie commissary shopping, getting on base with no issues, etc.

Ashleigh --- 13 years ago -

The temporary base pass would be awesome! Dh is already deployed and I have a POA, does anyone know if that will work? Or does dh have to be here to fill out the form?

Donny --- 13 years ago -

hmm i didn't think a guest pass allowed anything except access to come onto the base. You all are saying it also grants commissary access? Didn't know that! Pretty cool if that's true.

gurlplz --- 13 years ago -

There is a temporary pass that is available, I remember them mentioning it at the many deployment meetings we had. Unfortunately I didn't pay much attention to what was needed to obtain this pass, but maybe the FRO can help you out.

That's news to me too because the pass we received has no access to the commissary or mcx shopping. It is merely to get on base.

jallyse --- 13 years ago -

With the pass commissary shopping is allowed but NOT the exchange. And ASHLEIGH: since you have POA, your good.

Ashleigh --- 13 years ago -

Is pass and id the same thing as the jrc? I was going to call them in the morning and ask. Thanks everyone!

Ashleigh --- 13 years ago -

Jallyse-Thanks so much!

jallyse --- 13 years ago -

I want to say yes. Ive only ever refered to it as Pass and ID so im not sure.

Donny --- 13 years ago -

I think we are talking two different passes. You need a SVP pass for the front gate that allows access on and off the base.

Then there is another one i believe that allows someone to stay in base housing with you for an extended period of time and that pass might allow for commissary access.

I have filled out a SVP many times there is NO reference to allowing access to the commissary or MCX on it it's strictly to come through the gate more then 3 times in a 45 day period.

My grandma is the widow of a Marine. She is 92 now and cannot drive or go to the commissary. My Mom lives with her and we got my Mom a pass to get on base and go to the commissary, but NOT the exchange. It was a pain in the neck. We had to get a letter from my Grandma's doctor. We had to go se a lady in an office in the 22 area(who?, but I found out all of this from pass and ID). They also had my Mom check in with PMO near the Pulgas gate. My Mom's is valid for a year. Go into Pass and ID and ask them. They may have to ask around the office, but someone there will be able to help. Sorry, I cant remember that lady's name in the 22 area.

reinacat --- 13 years ago -

Pass and ID, where you get your vehicle stickers and military ID. But then we had to go to see another lady in the 22 area, and then PMO. If you cant figure it out, I can have my Mom look for the lady's business card. Sorry, I am in VA now. If it is only going to be like 2 weeks, you may want to say forget about it. It is sort of a big hassle like all goverment things! But it can be done, we did it!

Mrs Patch --- 13 years ago -

Personally, we had no need for the person to be shopping at the Commissary so it was quite simple and quick to just get the pass at the front gate and be over and done w/ it, but you may want them to have that priviledge. If you don't, however, then I would suggest just driving over to the front gate when they get here and use your POA to get their base access pass. You need to take the form already filled out. They do not have a copy machine so you need to take 3 copies. You can get the form online on the base website.

reinacat --- 13 years ago -

I agree with Mrs. Patch. Stock up now. you can even freeze milk. I would just ask a friend or neighbor to grab you a few things at the commissary if you need them. That is what I did when I had a baby and they hubby was deployed.

Just Sayin --- 13 years ago -

If you are closer to a gate and not a Pass and ID center, you take the three copies to the gate WITH the person and they will sign off on the forms. We did this at the San O gate bc the Pass and ID was taking forever up here.

Also, just bc he has base access to drive around DOESN'T mean he is approved to stay in housing for three months. That issue must be approved by housing.

Trace --- 13 years ago -

I've never heard of guests getting a pass to shop at the commissary. I have heads of people with long term disabilities getting a caretaker to get an id though.

reinacat --- 13 years ago -

I personally think it is just too much hassle unless it is a permanent disablilty like in my Grandma's case.

jaimemike --- 13 years ago -

I was able to get my Mom a pass to be on base and shop at the commissary and exchange while my husband and I were 900 miles away at a hospital with our baby. My husband did have to fax paperwork to do so but it is possible. Call pass & ID and ask about it.If he is staying with you in base housing you will also have to go to housing.

mommysaurus --- 13 years ago -

talk to your FRO. My MIL came out to help me and she got a temp ID. (I don't remember the office, but it's across from the air station). She was able to shop at the commissary and had the same base privs.
