The OB's office doesn't have an "on call" number?

Most doctors have an after hours number.

You could call L&D and they will be able to give you a better answer

Camerons Creations --- 13 years ago -

L&D is really good about checking. The don't mind at all! and it's usually super fast. I had to go in twice (second time I was actually in labor lol)

Amniotic fluid is slippery, straw colored and sweet smelling. It's normal to have a ton of extra fluids at this point in your pregnancy, but ime the amniotic fluid is quite different.

Amniotic fluid can leak out slowly. It does have a weird odor and texture. Make sure this isn't happening. That can be very dangerous.

Do the lay down test. (They will tell you to do this of you call L&D anyways...)
Put a maxi on and lay down for about 30 min (on your left of course). After that time is up... stand, and if you GUSH enough to soak the pad then its more than likely Amnio... if your still not sure, try 1 hour (with a new pad) and go from there. If you are soaking them then yes... get over to L&D amd tell them you are pretty dang sure your water broke.

And... my water broke over 2 days before I actually had my son... so no need to rush (but still do)
