What soap do you use?
How many rinses before you wash
How many rinses after you wash
What temp are your wash and rises
Do you use vinegar? How?

Just looking for a better routine, i have stinky diapers but they are very mild so I might just try a different routine

DramaLlamasMomma --- 13 years ago -

I'm having a bit of a problem with mine as well right now but here is what I do.

I use EcoSprout. So I put them in the wash on Quickwash with no soap on Cold with an extra rinse. Then I wash them with 3TBSP of soap on HOT with an extra rinse. I do not use any vinegar but that sounds like a good idea.

When I get some time I am going to strip my diapers in the sink. My washer is an HE Top Loader so I do not have the option to soak them in there.

grantsmommy --- 13 years ago -

I have the same routine but with rocking green but i have a regular top loader, I'm going to try vinegar and get the "funky" smell out, its very faint but its still not smelling like nothing

I had my hot water heater at as high as it would go

What soap do you use?
All Pure and Gentle

How many rinses before you wash?
None (my baby is a newborn)

How many rinses after you wash?
I do my washer cycle and an extra rinse and extended spin

What temp are your wash and rinses?
HOT/HOT

Do you use vinegar? How?
I use vinegar to strip my dipes. I do a deep clean/sanitary wash (cycle on my machine) on CLEAN diapers with an extra rinse. When it's finished, do another of the same cycle with 1/2 c. vinegar. After that do another of the same cycle with nothing in it.

What kind of diapers do you use? What are they made out of? How old is your child? What detergent do you use? How do you do your every day washes?

Jayne Wayne --- 13 years ago -

@SpriteDew... be careful with vinegar... using it routinely can destroy your PUL

B*Bright --- 13 years ago -

What soap do you use?
Tide w/downy. Or RnG

How many rinses before you wash?
One "Rinse & Spin" cycle

How many rinses after you wash?
I do the above rinse, then I use a "sanitary" wash cycle which is a very hot wash and cold rinse. Then I add an extra rinse. I have an HE frontloader and it has a "water plus" button to add extra water...I use it too.

What temp are your wash and rinses?
I think I answered this above..

Do you use vinegar? How?
Sometimes. You can just add it in with the water when filling the washer. Also, since you have a regular washer, you can let the water fill then add your vinegar and let it soak for 30 minutes to an hour...You can also do this with RnG....Or buy some "Funk Rock" from them...

one wash in purex free and clear with a half and half vinegar mix in a downy ball ($1 at the comm) and then line dry. if they start getting super stinky i bleach them and do a second wash (i dont have special rinse options) without soap. i have bleached once since i moved in June. thats how great line drying is for it.
oh my whole cycle is on hot and heavy cycle. (lol that came out wrong.)

B*Bright --- 13 years ago -

Oh, yeah, I completely forgot about line drying. That will help too. The sun will kill the bacteria in the diaper and that will help get rid of stinkies. Also, the suns rays will help to get out yucky stains. Even on cold days...It doesn't have to be hot to get the benefits from the sun..

I use Country Save for soap

I do 1 cold rinse and spin to help remove stains and ammonia

I do an extra rinse after my wash to make sure there is no soap residue, but I have a button that just ads the extra rinse to the wash cycle

My first rinse is cold, wash is hot on sanitary cycle, rinse is cold

I used vinegar until I realized with hard water it will cause ammonia smell after a while. If you live on base and do not have culligan or rayne don't use vinegar. Your diapers will smell like swamp monster after a while.

My son is out of diapers now, but when we did use CDs our routine was pretty much like Green Chick's

Country Save detergent
Cold rinse
Sanitary wash
Cold "extra rinse"

No vinegar

Soap, I have been trying a few-Was never in love with RNG, using Planet and that's okay and Tide (basically like all free and clear but tide version) so far like both planet and tide

I rinse on a cold/cold 28 minute run

I was on HOT/COLD with soap at 85 minutes (a long hot wash with 2 extra rinses that are added in the time)

The tempature of the water needs to be no more then 125 i think it is... A&L had her water TOO hot! You can not only ruin your washer, but you can also ruin all your diapers with water temperature that hot.

Vinegar can be used at 1/2 a cup IN with the diapers on a small wash cycle (28 minutes for me)

Also added on--- If you are going to strip diapers in a top loader--- fill the washer with water, then open the lid and leave it open-you can rock a soak that way...

I do a double rinse before a wash cycle and that helps...

I have bumgenious 4.0 Fuzzibunz and momma kitty united (and blueberry, although they are leaking like crazy)

My son is 11 weeks and exclusively breastfed

I use rocking green and do my other laundry like normal but i do use fabric softer on my clothes, maybe i need to rinse the dispenser or skip the dispenser all together....hmmmmm

Cayla --- 13 years ago -

try funk rock if its just a smell, sounds to me like build up and with the diapers you have, most the time the microfiber gets build up SUPER easy. I switched to all organic cottons and fibers because of this...

grantsmommy --- 13 years ago -

I'm having leaks! any suggestions?

Jayne Wayne --- 13 years ago -

Okay so you use pocket diapers (I'm assuming one size) I use one size pockets myself.

Your diapers should NOT stink with that small of a baby exclusively breastfed. Are they used diapers?

For the leaks, maybe you need to double/triple stuff them. I always have to double stuff my daughter. I use microfiber and bamboo liners (one of each) in each diaper and hardly ever have leaks. Also, they may be a bit big on him yet since he's so young... Try making them tighter and make sure when you put it on him you pull it all the way into the crease of his hip so there is no space between his bum and the dipe.
