Please, while you are driving, pay attention to the road. I know that there are so many more interesting things in our vehicles like our phones, or ipods, or kids, or even your Starbucks drink, but paying attention while driving should be your number one priority. Please also remember that while you are driving to keep a lookout for bicyclists. Legally, they have just as much of a right to be on (most of) the roads as you but don't have seat belts and airbags and 2000lbs of steel around them to protect them. Yes, bicyclists are slower but you will still get to your destination quicker than they will. Just remember to be considerate of them and politely share the road.

Thank you.
Sincerely,
A scared-for-their-life-bicyclist.

My friend was just hit by a car while on her bike 2 days ago. Broke her leg, her arm and her other shoulder. Its scarey riding!

^ My high school gym teacher died a few weeks ago from injuries he sustained while riding his bike when he was hit by a mother of two who had turned around to talk/scold her two kids in the backseat.

I always try to swerve around bicyclists whenever I see them. I know I'm much bigger than them, and I've been hit by a car while riding a bike before, so I try to give them as much room as I can safely give. Plus, my depth perception isn't that great, so I feel more comfortable giving them a few extra feet =)

YES. PLEASE!

Me too, but it kind of bugs me that when they're on a road (like Basilone) that is getting busy, why do they not ride in a single file? Instead, they form up side by side and then it makes me even MORE nervous that I am going to hit one of them.

SkullGirl --- 13 years ago -

I understand the frustration of motorists when bicyclists don't follow the rules or are considerate of motorists themselves. I always try to stay close to the side of the road except when I have to turn left, use my hand signals, and ride single file but I still get angry motorists yell at me and flipping me off or inattentive motorists driving way too close for comfort.

Many times I have had someone on a bike ride into the road in front of me because they don't ride in a line like they are supposed to on Stuart Mesa Rd. It is very aggravating and you would think they would realize they are going to get themselves hit. I shouldn't have to swerve into the oncoming lane because you don't want to ride in yours.

SkullGirl --- 13 years ago -

On most surface streets, bicyclists are allowed to ride in the middle of the road. That being said, common sense or common courtesy says that bicyclists should ride on the side until it is not longer safe or or they need to merge to turn. Bicyclists do not have to and should not ride in the gutter or on the sidewalk.

Use your headlights in the fog. It's not just so YOU can see, so OTHER drivers can see you!

Also,
When there is two lands - say the flats between the commissary and Air Field (55 mph zone) one lane is a passing lane. It's not so we can drive beside each other.
