My guy served at Pendleton many years ago and remembers the smell of a desert plant....he says it was there all year round. Can anyone tell me what flower or plant is distinct to the area please?

Going past the air station it smells like farts. I forget and accuse my husband before he reminds me that it's sewage or whatever.

And it might be the sage...he said there were no blooms just the smell. I can find both of those and see which one it is!!!

Was he here last for boot camp? In MOS school some of the guys said that CPEN had a smell but when we got to the fleet it wasnt the same. I dont remember a Paris Island smell but I do remember the heat lol

It's sage. Personally I think it smells like a skunk, but my husband swears it is sage.

Well he is thinking it is the fennel...Thank you for all your help!!! He was remembering that fragrance.. it made his day that I tried helping him find the name of it.

Yeah, fennel smells just like licorice. I make a killer risotto that has fennel as a main ingredient. :)
