When I was a kid my mom always used teas and smells to help us when we were sick. Im sure most of your moms did this too, peppermint candies when your tummy hurt and salt water when you had a loose tooth. I get headaches a lot now and I drink peppermint tea and burn peppermint scented candles to help, just wondering what everyone else grew up using? What your parents/grandparents gave you and you use on your kids now?
*I dont mean like Tylenol or Advil, just stuff from your kitchen that makes you feel better
Anytime I have an upset stomach I drink iced peppermint tea or this Jamaican Ginger Beer (non-alcoholic) that you can get at Trader Joe's. That stuff is awesome.
Flu or cold - honey lemon tea and sweats, thick blanket, bundled up and sweat it out.
Stomach and Headache - mint tea and peppermint candles
I have a book of home remedies and such that's been passed down. It has stuff for illnesses, asthma, aches and pains, and even little things around the house. Its my second bible. Lol
I do 7-Up or Ginger Ale for my stomach. I used to think peppermint would help my headache but the scent is a little strong when I have headaches. I know a warm heat pack on your head and laying down helps.
Migraines/Headaches- Fresh Mint Leaf Tea Upset Stomach- Peppermint Indigestion/Acid Reflux- 1 or 2 cloves of Garlic, or some baking soda mixed with water. Nausea- Tea made from Ginger Root
I think I'm lucky because the last time I was like dying-sick, was in 2007. I had bronchitis, pneumonia, strep throat, and the flu...at once.
My oldest gets horrids coughs during fall though. We put Vicks on his feet and give him as much hot chocolate as his little belly can handle (he his a cup-hugger, so the steam from his cup goes right up his little nose).
Mom always gave us ginger ale and saltines for upset stomachs. She would make magic soup when we had the flu, it was chicken noodle with some fresh lemon, and some eggs (think egg drop soup) and it always seemed to help. I would get tea with honey and lemon for a sore throat.
I'll try anything for headaches.. I begged my OB to give me something but since I'm pregnant I'm SOL apparently.
There are things they can prescribe you for headaches, I got Midrin (not sure about the spelling)and it helped. They didnt want to give me anything at first but it got so bad that I couldnt work with out the lights making me throw up when I would get a headache

That is what I hate about base doctors. I Had BAD migraines and my doctor gave me Tylenol 3 and phenergan. While I was pregnant. MY docotr said as long as I didn't use it everyday. It was ok. Worked great.
Vicks is to strong for babies on there chest so you put it on there feet where they wont breath in to much. There is also baby vicks and it works great, we used it for the first time a few days ago and it really helped
Thankfully we don't get sick very often, but when we do...
Headaches- Which we rarely get. Chug a huge glass of water. I know I only get them when I am dehydrated.
Sore throat-Chamomile tea with a slice of ginger, fresh lemon juice and honey. Or homemade chicken broth/stock with grated ginger. We also gargle warm salt water.
Acid reflux or indigestion-A tablespoon of Braggs Apple Cider vinegar in 8 oz water or a tablespoon of lemon juice in water.
I took Midrin before I was pregnant but it doesn't work that much for me. I went to the ER last week because I had a 4 day migraine and the IV didn't help, they gave me phenergan which didn't do anything either. The OB prescribed me tylenol 3 but I haven't bothered. The only thing that takes the edge off is Excedrin Migraine and drinking a soda..
You know your not supposed to take excedrin migraine if your pregnant right? I delt with migraines my last pregnancy and my doc said I could do Excedrin Tension but not migraine. But, mine were so bad she put me on Fiorocet!
When I was a kid and had a bad cough my grandm would take a couple slices of white onion and sprinkle them with sugar. Let it set awhile and make me take a couple of teaspoons of the juice that accumulated.
Gross, YES!! But it sure did take away the hacking cough!
