It's things like this that make me question why there are not seat belts on school buses. Parents get in trouble for their kiddos not buckling up but school busses transport tons of kiddos with no seat belts.

The buses over here allow the parent to provide a carseat for their children (up to the required age). which of course are tied down with belts.

Seat belt buses are awful. In elementary school, we had to use one for a field trip. This was the problem: It only had lap belts. A lap and shoulder belt in combination help protect you (spreads the force of impact over your entire body). Just a lap belt is bad because all of the impact is being put to your abdomen. You can burst internal organs that way.
*Sorry, I don't know all the technical words to describe it. I learned that a long time ago. When I was on the bus, I remember thinking "I hope we don't get into an accident," because I didn't want my internal organs to burst! haha
