I have a few questions...& hopefully someone can answer them :-)

I am on Tricare Standard & will be delivering out in Oceanside...any pros or cons with Tri City hospital vs. the hospital in Encinitas?

I spoke with a Tricare Rep & they said the baby is automatically put onto Prime (and then of course has to be actually put into the system)....does anyone use an out in town pediatrician? If so, who do you like...& what are your bills like?
If your babe goes to Naval, what are the pediatricians like there? Pros vs. cons :-)

Last question....baby/birthing classes. Since I am delivering out in town am I still able to take the classes offered on base or will I need to go through the hospital I use for delivery?

If you can't tell this is our first go around with this...the hubbs will be gone when the bundle arrives and I know the more we figure out how the better we will both feel :-)
Thanks!

I know nothing about Tri-city but I have been seeing people at Scripps in Encinitas and I am absolutely in love with them. My neighbor said she delivered there as well and had a great experience but I plan on delivering at a birthing center in San Diego.

My daughters and I (well I until I switched to prime) as well as my husband see the family practitioner over by Edson Range, past Stuart Mesa Housing because it's always easier to get in and they are pretty small and closer than the NH. I really like them and I don't feel like Im herded through like cattle. They know who we are when we go in.

You go through the hospital out in town where you plan to deliver for your classes. My midwife at Scripps was telling me about all the different ones the they offer and I believe they are listed on their website as well.

This is pregnancy #5 for me and hopefully baby #3 for us. I still feel like an amateur, lol. When are you due? We are due October 9th.

That helps a lot :-) We are due at the end of October.
The place ya'll go by Edson Range is that covered by Prime or Standard?

Another question :-) This may sound silly..but you seem to know the ropes! haha...When I have the baby wherever I deliver will the hospital just have a pediatric doctor from there check the baby..and then if I see someone on base will I just make an app for after I leave the hospital for it to be seen on base?

Thanks SO much for the help!!

Prime bc it's base. But I heard that if they have room on base you can have standard an still use base you just have to ask the hospital. I didn't try it except for the pharmacy.

Yeah at the birth they check him/her out and do some little tests etc like hearing. Once you're discharged you can call whichever pediatrician or family doc you choose or are assigned to and they will tell you when you should have your first appointment for baby.

If you keep baby on prime they will assign you somewhere but typically the guys in the office are good about letting you choose where on base or the out in town tricare clinic (I know nothing about that clinic other than it exists and it is treated like you're going on base) if you want to be able to choose your own pediatrician off base you need to go with standard. Idk what the cost is but I know with my trip to the urgent care it was about $100 so I can imagine it costing a ridiculous amount for routine visits.

Oh and the other thing is if you down deliver on base then dad needs to go to DEERS to add baby. You have to do this if you deliver on base too but from our experience delivering at the military hospital in Hawaii, they hold your hand through everything and tell dad what he needs to do so its done even before you go home. Obviously off base they won't do that.
