Hi ladies! I'm sure everyone asks the age-old question: Where to live on base? My question is more of where is the best place to live on base that won't give my husband a huge commute to work as well as nice housing. We just got assigned to CLR 15 MLG 1 (MOS 3521 motor t maintenance). We do have a dog so it's just the 3 of us. I believe I've narrowed it down to South Mesa I, Stuart Mesa, Wire Mountain I, Wire Mountain II, or Wire Mountain III. Are any of these possibly close to his work? I haven't been able to find a map of housing areas or anything anywhere. I didn't know if I call the housing office if they will help place us as close as possible to his work. So I wanted to be proactive! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Who knows better than us spouses!

Since its only the 3 of you, what rank is your husband? Depending on that they actually might put you in Sera Mesa.. Which is across base, but again it does depend in rank...

He's E4 and about to up. Someone else was telling us De Luz housing? Do you know if you are able to apply to both housing at the same time? Like apply for a house in Lincoln Housing (say Sera Mesa) as well as a house in De Luz? I didn't know if we were only allowed to choose one, but since they are owned by 2 different companies I was just curious.

If he's an E4 with no children and a dog, I thought you only rated a 2 bedroom? (At least that's what it was 5 years ago.)

I know the standards are wacky now because you can live in Stuart Mesa in a 2 bedroom and get a concession, or live in a 3 bedroom and not get a concession.

Right??

Also E4 and E5 housing is the same, so it won't matter until he gets promoted to E6 on the housing locations.

Two years ago when I moved onto base E4s only rated a three bedroom. Santa margarita is a housing you could get too.

Most of those are right by the front gate besides Stuart Mesa is a little farther from the front gate but still pretty close.
You can look on the housing website and see what housing area you qualify for and what areas have houses open

Santa margarita is a housing you could get too.

And they receive concession checks, so you'd get money back on your rent if you lived there.

Not sure if she made a typo, but Santa Margarita is 2 bedrooms, near the front gate in the Wire Mountain II area. Be careful when you look online, because some areas will say that it's for E4 for three bedrooms, but that's E4 WITH children. I'd call the housing office and definitely ask before you think about an area.

Sorry I did mean a two bedroom not three.

NickiZ09 --- 12 years ago -

Yes, since he is about to be e5 he will probably get Santa margarita. That's where I am at... It's possible you can apply for an excess home for maybe Stuart Mesa. I wouldn't go for Deluz housing if you want to be close to his work. I would call the housing office and see what your options are for sure. Good luck!

NickiZ09 --- 12 years ago -

You don't receive concession checks for Santa Margarita! They have an incentive for the first 2-3 months hat rent is only $1500 but that's about it. If thats even still going on? they have what you call a hot sheet on their website you can look at to see what is available, but you will only be rated a two bedroom, unless as i said before its possible he can get an excess home thats 3 bedroom? Stuart Mesa you get concession but as puppy love stated its a little farther away.

Stuart Mesa is just as far from Vandergrift as Santa Margarita. Practically the same distance just in different directions lol.

thank you all for your advice! This base is wayyy bigger than MCBHawaii so it just makes it all a little crazy for me. I've checked out the hot sheet for housing and I'm about to start the process of looking for a sponsor from our new command. So, hopefully with y'alls advice/recommendations plus what the relocation office can offer us I can make this a easier move :) Thank you all!!! Any other advice or recommendations I will gladly listen!
